I've always wondered why the sheriffs have better cars than the police. It is sexy, and I don't know why the wheels look like that, they don't usually.

Sheriff's tend to have more funding, because they are county wide, versus just a city. Anf, my agency gets a bunch of grants through DHS etc, because we are on a bunch of regional task forces, etc. We have a sexy MCC, bomb truck, and a brand new Lenco Bearcat

Ah, I see. Still doesn't make much sense, though, considering that Houston IS pretty much Harris County. Not many people live outside the city limits.
I don't know anything about the Harris County Sheriff's funding, but I do know we have one sexy-ass jail:

Chargers had alot of issues tbh. Fleet vehicles need to be able to last a long time, and be of low-cost to the agency. Chargers burn through brake discs alot, and commonly drop their transmissions around 80k miles... Whereas crown vics are good for well over 100k miles.

That would be CAR 1. The sheriff's parade vehicle. We have quite a few large scale parades around here.
You can barely make it out from this angle, but on the front wheel well, and top of the trunk it says "CAR 1"
