In the spirit of October, what is your favourite horror movie? Or if you can't pick, you're favorite type of horror movie (slasher, gore, supernatural, etc)

My favourite has to be The Exorcist, for all-around horror movie (actual plot value, decently creepy, etc). Though the only horror movie that really bothered me was The Grudge (I think it was responsible for about half of the damage to my mental health. The other half is my mum's fault, both her genetics and how young I was when she exposed me to horror movies). Though, you also can't beat the original Halloween movies.

My first horror movie was at age six (thanks, Dad). The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. To be fair, it was a pretty cheap-looking movie, and the effects would make me roll my eyes now, but it scared me pretty bad all those years ago.

My favorite horror movie (and one of the few I've ever seen) is A Tale of Two Sisters. The plot was so complex I still can't wrap my head around it, but I loved it nonetheless.

Best movies to watch on Halloween:

August Underground's Mordum (The goriest film ever. Hard to find.)
Trick R Treat (Obvious one)
Martyrs
FUCKING Funny Games (Old and New version are both good)
Tokyo Gore Police
Eraserhead

All good horror/psychological thriller/film noir

Ok I hate horror movies but in the spirit of the thread the one I hate most (i.e. the most scarey) was Event Horizon. I just felt wierd for ages after seeing that movie it was grim.

I don't watch horror, so I can't really say.

The ring... done really well

I just saw it last weekend :P It was great. I love that it wasn't all scares and had a great plot to it. Creepy throughout but didn't get freaky until much later.

LOL, hardly a horror, but The Hole in 3d is the closest to a horror I've seen. xD
Creepy clown doll in it was actually quite freaky though. :P

Saw is the best horror series for me, and the original Halloween is just a great spook.

All good horror/psychological thriller/film noir THANK yOU SO FUCKING MUCH FOR KNOWING WHAT MARTYRS IS. I absolutely love that movie. Japanese films are alright I suppose. I've seen a few that have creeped me out. But I think whe it comes to horror movies. My favorites have to definitely be french like Martyrs and High Tension. Cannibal Holocaust is a good one. Although its more of an exploitation film. If you can't stand genuine animal deaths, rape, cannibalism, or seeing a fetus ripped out of a woman and shoved in a pile of mud then I don't recommend you watch it. :P The Descent is a really good. And of course, you shouldn't forget about John Carpenter. Halloween, Prince of Darkness, The Thing etc.

Matt, I thought the remake of dawn of the dead was quite excellent. Though. The original is still the better out of the two. I cannot stand the saw series. I like the first one. And that is it.

You definitely need to see August Underground's Mordum. It's ten times as fucked up as Cannibal Holocaust. The ending scene one of the characters is fucking this girl's stomach as she hanging upside down. And that's just one scene. I mean, this movie takes exploitation to another level.

I couldn't sleep after funny games. Any of Michael Haneke's film's just linger on my mind long after watching them, like the piano teacher... that was pretty fucked up.

Saw is one of the stupidest series I have ever seen. It's annoyingly overrated.

I really don't like Saw. I've never been a fan of those types of horror movies. There seem to be the people who like/are scared of slasher movies, serial killers, gore, etc. and the people who like/are scared of the supernatural horror movies. And it seems like the people who are scared of one aren't scared of the other. That's just what I've seen. Slasher movies never bothered me, however the Ju-On/Grudge movies and The Exorcist (though I don't even believe in the devil) did. I'm also in love with horror movies with a distinct plot, not just scare after scare or buckets of blood. That's why The Ring really appealed to me.

I liked Martyrs. Because like you said, it's more of a mental thing. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

Just watched A Serbian Film. It's a really violent and sexual movie. Do not watch if you're easily offended.

I'll just tell you off the bat this movie is extreme - including fetus fucking. So, be warned.
