Having 1 or more active infractions will result in being frozen if you are infracted again while the infraction(s) is(are) still active, and people can be frozen as a direct punishment as well.

When someone breaks a serious rule or having one of more serious infractions, they get something called "frozen" which is a temporary ban, usually a repeated offender. So the person that is frozen may or may not come back :P depending on the offense.

You can appeal it, but there is no guarantee that it will be removed. Though to answer your question yes.

Infractions expire after a fixed time, this is shown where its listed in your User CP.

Occasionally people are frozen at their own request, so you cant always assume they broke any rules.

Even if they expire another infraction will get a freezing.

Also, having multiple accounts gets your main account frozen.

I thought it was 75 infraction points before a freeze

It is, however if a member has multiple acconts, the main account will be frozen even if they don't have any infraction points at all.

Also, in extreme circumstances, a member may be frozen before they reach 75 points if they have broken many rules despite many warnings.

rules broken, but not severe enough for them to be banned...it's like a temporary one

(yeah, repeat)

No it's still 75 points. 55 gets you a restricted account.

Does it also depend on the type of infraction received or is that irrelevant?

Each infraction has a different amount of infraction points. For example, a more serious offense might have 55 points, and a less serious may have 20. If someone receives a more serious infraction, and then a less serious one, they can be frozen because it has reached 75 points. But you can have many 20 point infractions to receive 75 points, and therefore being frozen. It depends on the type of infraction, so serious rules that get broken mean if you do something less serious afterwards, you can be frozen, even if someone else has been given 3 less serious infractions and still not be frozen.
