I thought you couldn't convert to Judaism unless you were of Jewish descent?

You can convert but it is very hard from what I read.
From the Great Synagogue Sydney Website:
"CONVERSION
"While one need not be Jewish in order to attain salvation, a person who sincerely desires to become a Jew can be converted. The procedure requires genuine motivation, study of and commitment to Jewish life, circumcision for a male, and immersion in the mikvah (ritual bath) for both males and females. Conversion for the sake of marriage to a Jew is not encouraged; love of Judaism is a higher motivation than love of a Jew."
http://www.greatsynagogue.org.au/Traditions/JewishAttitudes.aspx
So I don't think you need to be of Jewish background.

I am in love with the Torah so much and want to live it fully.
Please don't double post, thanks.

I understand you're obviously dedicated to Judaism, but you should slow down a bit. This is gonna require a ridiculous amount of sacrifice, and you should really (I mean really) think about it. I'm not saying you haven't already, you probably have, but think some more.
I mean, circumcision...

You should probably ask around your school for some people who are Jewish and ask to go to the synagogue with them next time they go. But it takes a lot of time and dedication to convert.

What is wrong with circumcision ?

It's just a big, life-changing decision. He should think it through throughly before actually going ahead with anything.

That's assuming he isn't already circumcised and even so it shouldn't matter if this is about wanting to convert to a religion. Also, I'm pretty sure a rabbi isn't going to ask him about his dick anyway.

True, I'm assuming he's not circumcised. It still doesn't change the amount of dedication and time he's going to have to put into this conversion, which is something he should think about before doing it all.

Look: it's a surgical procedure. It will change his sexual activity significantly. I don't care what views you have on the importance of foreskin, you have to acknowledge that this is something that is not reversible. You may not like foreskins, even though there's no reason not to, but what if he does?

It takes about two years of study to convert to Judaism. If you are circumcised they have a similar ceremony where they take a drop of blood form your penis to show your acceptance of the covenant. Its a very involved process indeed. Also do you want to be a reformed or orthodox Jew? Also conversion costs you have to pay for the rabbis time, etc. Thanks

Yeah, you should consider whether you want to spend the next 2 years of your life converting to a religion. Do you have more important things to do? Is education or getting a job a higher priority? If so, maybe it's best to leave it off until later.

Well it is a great sacrifice.
And if you don't like Judaism and want to convert again to another religion, I think that would be a foul play against the God

...Purely out of my own curiosity, Jason, what exactly is it that you find appealing about Judaism? I so rarely ever hear of anyone wanting to convert to it.

Someone might say that why not become Christian as the Christian bible also has the Torah in it, but I don't consider the "new testament" to be scripture. It contradicts the Torah.
I also like the Jewish culture such as close family, community and traditions and customs. I am going to speak with a Rabbi about it.
I know it must look weird that someone would want to become Jewish of all religions, but I have read a lot about Judaism, read the Torah and I feel like if I don't do it I will suffocate.
It will be very hard but I am going to try and find an accommodating Rabbi.

And I take it that you are deaf? This could make communication with a Rabbi difficult. In all honesty I'd wait till your older you don't need to be a Jew on paper just live out the Torah the best you can. Thanks.

I can take a notebook and we can write.
No barrier at all.
I told that most of the conversion process is Rabbi setting task / assignment which are done by your own.

I love the Torah.
Well, yes, you said that, but what about it specifically? A lot of the stories in there are pretty gruesome and morbid. There's genocide, slavery, people being stoned to death... I don't see the appeal.
