AN international pilot took photographs of the genitals of three young naked boys at a popular Brisbane parkland because of a disorder which made him obsessed with circumcision, a court has been told.

The Brisbane District Court was this morning told Glenn Anthony Armstrong photographed a three-year-old boy as he was changing and urinating on a garden near the lagoon at South Bank Parklands on Australia Day this year.

The court was told alert police observed Armstrong and seized his camera which contained 10 images showing the genitals of three young boys, including two who have yet to be identified.

However, lawyers for Armstrong argued the former V Australia pilot was obsessed with circumcision and suffered a psychological disorder that was "anatomical and not sexual in nature.''

Judge Kerry O'Brien was told Armstrong had been warned by his wife of 16-years that taking indecent photos of young boys was wrong, but did so purely as a result of his obsession for circumcision.

Armstrong, 48, was this morning placed on a three-year, $5000 good behavior bond after pleading guilty to three counts of making recordings in breach of privacy on January 26.

Judge O'Brien also ordered no conviction be recorded against Armstrong, a father of two of Western Australia, which paves the way for the disgraced pilot to take up an offer to continue his career flying for a London-based airline from Friday.

Prosecutor Chris Minnery said Armstrong, who was a school teacher before becoming a pilot, was seen by the father of toddler near his three-year-old son as he changed into his bathers near Southbank’s crowded lagoon precinct.

He said police noticed Armstrong's peculiar conduct as he took photographs and seized his camera.

The court was told Armstrong's camera contained 51 photographs - 10 of which contained images of three children in varying stages of undress.

Mr Minnery said Armstrong told police he knew it was wrong to take photos of naked children, that his wife had warned him against it, but had done so because of his obsession about circumcised penises.

"(Armstrong told police) he had done so because he had an obsession with circumcision - circumcised and uncircumcised,'' he said.

"He knows he shouldn't (do it), but he does it anyway. There is no demonstration of pedophelic behaviour.''

Barrister Peter Kelly, for Armstrong, said his client, who had flown regular international flights between Sydney and Los Angeles, was sacked by V Australia shortly after his arrest and the ensuing media coverage.

"In a matter of weeks (Armstrong) went from an international pilot to a delivery driver earning $250 a week,'' he said.

Mr Kelly said Armstrong was an avid photographer and that on the day of his arrest had taken photos of birds, architecture, bridges and people among the more than 50 images including those of the three boys.

He said Armstrong has been diagnosed with the psychological condition - body dysmorphic disorder.

The court was told the disorder results in the affected person being obsessively concerned about a perceived defect in his or her physical features.

"There was nothing predatory (about Armstrong's actions) or sexual in nature,'' he said.

"(Armstrong) is dedicated to putting to rest the devil which he has wrestled with over the years,'' Mr Kelly said.

Judge O'Brien, in sentencing, said it was clear Armstrong's disorder was "anatomical and not sexual in nature.''

Really, i dont care wether it was anatomical or not, the fact that he went out of his way to take pictures of naked boys shows that he needs jail time. Its like saying that bill henderson, or whatever his name was who took photos of 12 year olds for art was normal.

He has a mental problem, he may have done it off his own accord but that doesn't mean he did it when in a sane state. I say a psych evaluation would help him and other people more than putting him in prison.

He didn't do anything really wrong; it says he couldn't control it, and he's getting psych evaluation. What does putting him jail accomplish? What does it really accomplish?

And to your last sentence, it is art.

And people can change publicly in parts and such?

OK, i admit putting him into jail would be bad, but really, he has a serious problem.

And, Bill henderson went into a public school, asked 12 year old girls to strip naked and be his models, without parental consent. Not art if you ask me

Um, I doubt he walked into a school, since y'know, you have to have a reason, and then walk into a classroom and say, "Strip down naked; I want pictures." You do know he took one picture of a boy and one picture of a girl, right?

He should at least go through some therapy for his condition. His actions may be excusable due to it, but it doesn't nullify the gravity of the entire situation.
