View Full Version : Congratulations sub-forum

What do you guys think about having a sub forum within TWPR for congratulations and happy birthdays specifically? Sometimes TWPR gets a bit clogged with all the birthdays and retiring/new admins/mods, and I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're being recognized, but it gets hard to tell the non birthday and congrats threads from the others. I mean, there are just so many of them.

No, there really aren't that many congratulation threads being made daily so it could go a few days or weeks without being used. So until there's a need for it just something we shouldn't have.

Really Tom? I see a birthday at least once a week.

Yeah, from the looks of it half of TWPR is birthday and congratulations threads.

Yea once a week but not like three times a day, once a week isn't really enough to warrant a whole new sub forum. It just wouldn't be very active and for it only having for that reason isn't enough either.

2 Of them. Page 2, two... o.O Its really not that hard to tell the difference... most of them, say, Happy birthday... or if you hover your curser over the title for a few moments you'll see a little cut of what is in the post, so you can even see in more detail if or if not the thread is for a birthday.

There's actually 5 Birthday/congrats/staff-change threads on the 1st page, & 3 on the 2nd. (@ Jack)
There /is/ enough activity to create a sub-forum.
And perhaps with a dedicated forum to it, we'd see more birthday/congrats threads.
It wouldn't hurt to try, would it? I mean, it takes maybe 5 clicks to create the sub-forum.
If it doesn't see much activity, then get rid of it, & merge the existing threads back into TWPR.

i agree ^ i think we should have a congratualtions section, this way it doesn't get too crowded. :)

I do think that would be a good idea. I've seen this incorporated quite often on other forums.

I think it could work, there usually are a lot of birthdays and congrats going on in TWPR, but I don't see there's been any problem with it so far. I think if we had one it wouldn't have the forum that much better. To me, it doesn't seem worth the trouble. Sure there are a few every now and then, but I don't mind them. Again, not really worth making an entire sub forum for it.

I don't think there's enough that it merits another forum. Frankly, some subforums here are a little slow anyways... we don't really need more.

I disagree here, I think all it will do will attract spammers to bump both their post count, and old threads = annoying.
Although it's a good idea, and may work on other forums, I believe its impractical here.

A forum dedicated to just "Happy Birthday" or "Congrats on this" seems pointless to me.

i'd say pointless is the wrong word, it has a point, TWPR does seem to be slowly filling with Happy Birthday threads, it just seems a waste of space to bother dividing it at the moment

I'd say pointless because it's not broad enough to make it a real active forum. You only have two reasons to post in it, to either congratulate someone or to say happy birthday, besides that no one will be allowed to say anything and it'll just go dead if someone doesn't have anything to celebrate. But yea I agree with you that it's a waste of space to divide them. Also, I'll add that for bigger forums something like this would work out great since there would be multiple birthdays and accomplishments each day.

I quite like the idea because on the rare occasion that I do go to twpr it does seem like a hell of a lot of threads are actually birthdays and congratulations.

I like it, but it doesnt seem it would be as active as some of you guys make it sound though. So I think we should hold off on this until there is a higher demand.

Possibly make it so that it doesn't go towards your post count, like the Arcade?

I got an idea. Change Intro forum, and add birthdays and good-byes to it?

The forum has changed too much to point them out now.
But in your screenshot, "Consumed by Dairy Queen" & "Duties dismissed, you still lurk" are staff changes & birthday thread respectfully.
So there were 4 in your screenshot (That I can count off the top of my head remembering the thread contents).
As of this posting, there are 2 staff change threads, and 2 birthday threads. (They have changed since your screenshot).
I still think there's enough activity to create a sub-forum in TWPR.

Hey, anyone remember that diary I made? That diary dedicated exclusively to congratulating people?
Yea, no one used it. Well that's an understatement. Some people used it, but obviously by the lack of it it was not something much appreciated.
Really no need for something like it if no one's going to even make an effort. Maybe I just am not seeing things correctly, but. I don't really see the need for birthday threads when anyone can opt to have their Bday displayed at th bottom of the forum. PMs can easily work for "grats" for birthdays.
Staff changes are an event that's only once in a while so it won't spam anything. Other stuff.... well, what other things even warrant a forum that don't fall down to good, gritty discussion? Birthdays are really the only thing that spams TWPR and it would seem to make sense to just get rid of birthday threads and either have people post on their visitor messages or do a PM.

Like I said before, there is no point. It wouldn't hurt to make one, but it just seems pointless to make an entire forum dedicated to congrats and birthdays. We should just keep it TWPR, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the forum to have a happy birthday thread every now and then.

well then, make a diary whoever made this thread if it bothers you that much, and the issue is solved, but you're still always gonna get people in TWPR posting them anyways XD

Yeah, there seems to be some emotional discussion here :P
You guys should relax, it's just a suggestion. If VT's not busy enough to adopt it yet, then we can wait until the day it is.
