View Full Version : Why do People cut?
Versailles Mansion
April 16th, 2005, 08:54 PM
I've never cut before cuz the stores where I live know that alot of people in the neighborhood do drugs so I can't buy a razor. But I've sorta wanted to cuz I've gone through alot of shit in the last few months. I was wondering why do people cut? Does it feel good? Does it get the frustration out or anything? What's it like?

It is something you will not understand unless you've been there. Be happy you've never been there.

People have alot of different reasons for doing it.
But, I'm with everyone else. It's best not to start, it's not some game that you can start playing and just quit whenever you would like. There isn't any "game over". It's a terrible addiction that sticks with you for a very long time.
This shit you are going though, can you get the release you want some other way? Try wrinting, painting, drawing, singing, playing an instrument, playing some kind of sport. Get yourself involved in something that you enjoy.

I definently agree.. cutting is a very bad addiction that if u start.. it often involves therapy and constant sessions with a shrink to stop. The best way to end cutting is never to start. There are plenty of other things u can do to make u feel better emotioinally rather than hurting yourself physically.

So far I haven't cut in 3 weeks and i think like 3 or 4 days, things seem to be going better for me lately, i've been happier and strangely I haven't felt the urge to cut lately.

It's a way of punishing myself. Or just releasing anger and stress when I have trouble handling it. Once you start, it's difficult to stop. But somehow I've managed 5-6 months without so far.

That's exactly how I am.
I can deal with quite a bit, but then there's those nights where all I can think about is my past, it usually has something to do with my mother. That's when I fall apart and cut.
Thank you for saying that Patch, you put it perfectly.

i tried it to see what its like because its sorta hard to see it from you guy's perspective, i think it does take away a little hurt but i see why its addicting and why it could be hard to stop

It's something that's so hard to understand, you'd kind of have to be in our head to comprehend.

Pretty much the same for me as well. It's on and off for me, I'd stop for a month, maybe a little more, and then I'd end up falling back into it again. And it'd get back to where I'd do it everyday. Then decide to stop again, it just goes on and on.

i started about 2 and a half years ago cause I was really depressed cause my girlfriend cheated on me and I just couldn't take it so i just heard about how people cut so I tried it and at first it was just to kinda relieve stress and let out my mental pain but then it started to become an addiction and I do it whenever i get depressed about something, even if it isn't that big of a thing. I haven't done it in a while though, but when I do I'll cut every few days until the depression passes. Sometimes I'll cut even when I'm not depressed, just sorta cause I'm bored... does this happen to anyone else or am I just different and wierd?

I only just recently started mildly cutting myself...it helps when I'm feeling depressed or stressed...and no, Chrono... I, too, sometimes cut for boredom or amusement...it doesn't hurt me...its just a good boredom relief...many reasons for it...I initially started cause of some shit going on in my life that was just pissing me off and bringing me low...it helped...my boyfriend saw some of "my work" and absolutely hated it, but he doesn't know that I do it more than what he saw.

Thats what i did i thought it would be fun to do for when i'm so bored! but i also had other shit going on in my life and now i'm addicted! i can't stop and i've tried but nothing seems to help...my bf hated it too and i just couldn't handle all the pain that i was going through...if you haven't done it don't ever do it! trust me

HEy guys i have been on the side of cutting let me tell you its addiction once you get the taste of cutting u can't stop about thinking about it and its like a vampire tasting blood. You may have nightmares about it and you can't sleep and you have to fight the urge and finally u snap like a madman and statr butching your self and then you have scars and you can't hide the pain because the friends you gain have seen u break down and fall part and trust me don't go to the gate of shadow and start because onnce you start there is no escape i have found that the hard way.

i think often it starts as pure curiocity. You hear that some of your friends are doing it and you are feeling depressed so you "try it out". The first time is not that deep or bad and some kids will be scared off by the pain...but outher think it causes them to feel alive. Alot of people also feel that they need to be punished so they punish themselfes. anouther reason is they dont know how to deal with things correctly. there are many reasons people do it but it often can be verry addictive and incredably difficult to quit.

I dealt with my self injury for five years.
It's extremely addicting.
And it releases chemicals in the brain to give you a "High" affect.
Actually, they are the same chemicals that are released when you smoke marijuana.
But believe me, it's just as addicting if not more.
When you are dealing with so much pain, and you descide to do it, often times it won't hurt.
It will give you just a release.
But theres where the problem begins.
With me, I almost ended up bleeding to death.
Because of the fact that it didn't hurt.
So I went too deep.
It's not something you want to "just try".
Believe me.
Don't do it.
You'll regret it later.

i was making the stement that you try it at some point and it is often difficult to quit once u try it beleve me i know how addicting it can be

Yeah.
A lot of times it is just about curiosity.
That's the sad truth.
