Hi, there are a couple of kids in my village who are destined for shit jobs. But they are constantly harassing my neigbours and tonight just few a few rotten plums at my hosue and the surrounding. My parents are all willing to ring the police and im worried if the kids may find out and decide to bring their friends to school or some street when im alone to try beating me up.
Now theyre all around my age and i can certainly stick up for myself in even the hard fights. But what im wondering is how far ia can hurt them when using self defence. I highly doubt they would be armed with knifes or guns, just try and use their bare hands.
So really i just want to know the extent of the self defence law so i dont end up in jail or something after trying to stop a bunch of kids breaking my neck.

Here you can do anything to protect yourself I guess I mean if they want to hurt you your going to have to stop them some how.

I'd say only as much as necessary. You don't kill them, just drive them off.

Try to avoid anything even as serious as that. It can go awry to easily. Go for pain but not damage.

Unfortunately the British press is full of stories everyday of people getting into worse trouble with the police than the agressors. Using undue force to defend yourself frowned upon.

Thanks for all the replies. My parents have got the police involved now so hopefully theyll do their best and piss off. If they do find themselves on the wrong side of my hands then ill be careful but im not going to stop until theyre well and truly feelign sorry.

I'd say you'd be able to knock them down to the point where they wouldn't be able to get back up to get you, without aid. I'm sure a trip to the hospital wouldn't be considered to much, but I'm not an expert and I recommended you keep pepper spray with you and try not to physically injure them. Just spray and run.
Protection of oneself from an unprovoked attack, which cannot be avoided.

you have to make them understand that you are stonger and smarter they are. dont waste your money on karte lessons or mace(mabey the mace is not such a bad idea), but catch them doing something, beating you uup for instance that will get them in trouble with a head master or the police whatever. self strenghth is good but but strength in an instution is beter. and if they dont help.....well then i suggest kicking their arses

If somebody tries hitting you kick them in the bollocks, give em' a smack only if they're older, but if younger lyke feyt like a man. But if in a group just tell em' to fuck off and if they don't hope for the best and throw punches.

Do what you have to, even if that means killing them(not saying you should though).

Well, here in America you defend yourself until the threat is stopped. You fend them off until they stop. Do not go overboard, but do not let them hit you. If you knock them down, do not jump on top of them and start beating them, let them get back up, and give them a chance to walk away. If they come back at you, do it again. If they pull a lethal weapon (I know anything can be lethal, but I think we all know the kind of weapon I am speaking of) then you have the right to defend yourself further. Here in America, if you fear for your own life, you have the right to kill them. Killing should always be the last resort, but sometimes you have no choice. Only use lethal force if your opponent is doing so first.

If you need to protect yourself, do it. You're not going to get in trouble for it unless you started it first. Personally? I wouldn't do anything super serious but I'd do enough to let them know I was pissed off and they better get away if they know what's good for them.
(Off topic but before you laugh at the idea of me "attacking" anyone, I've been taught how to fight, I'm not some little weakling girl who would sit there going "like omg go away or ill slap you!" Haha.)

you can protect yourself, but then since there probbly more them then you, they'll tell "their side of the story" and the police might pick majority over honesty.

You are only allowed to use as much force is necessary to subdue them. Not a bit more, for instance, if one guy punches you once and you then knock him unconscious you've broken the law.

You probably won't need to even hit them. If anyone says there gonna fight me it's as simple as putting them against a wall and telling them if they try it you will break their jaw lol:)

The UK law says that you are allowed to use reasonable force to defend yourself / someone else if someone actually assaults you / someone else or if you are 100% certain someone is going to assault you / someone else.
As long as you can justify the force you used in your / someone else's defence (and be able to prove exactly what they did / what you did / why you did it / the reasons you did it e.t.c.), you should be fine. The stuff you see in papers is when people try to defend themselves but go way over the top.
