What do you think of that? It seem to me that they shouldn't because they are in college primarily to get an education. On the other hand colleges make money off of student athletes.

It's a job. Why shouldn't they? Plus, it helps pay off loans from education.

There is no reason that they shouldn't be paid.

If I am not mistaken, most college athletes receive scholarships that pay for their college tuition, room and board, and other things.

That doesn't include other personal things, food, books, car payments, insurance, etc.

I am not sure if it is really a job. It seems more like an extra-curricular activity.

I disagree. College Football is more of a job, therefore, it should mean that players are paid. It's as simple as that.

College scholarships can cover school books as well as room and board (food).

Food is not included in room and board, dude. Why is it wrong for them to be paid for playing the sport? It's absorbing a lot of their life and time and they miss school, too. Being paid seems reasonable.

How much should they be paid?

Some college scholarships pay for everything including food, just saying.

Actually, it is.

Room and board describes a situation where, in exchange for money, labor or other considerations, a person is provided with a place to live as well as meals on a comprehensive basis. In foreign[where?] countries this is sometimes translated to literally "room and food".

Not at UGA; stop making me seem like I don't know anything. :P

Really? That's gotta suck. And you actually know quite a bit. I enjoy debating with you. Definitely an intelligent person. :)

Not all universities go by this.

Then it's not room and board, it's just housing.

It's still room and board, but you have to pay for the food at school. At UGA, you do this thing called a meal ticket, and I'm pretty sure it is not covered in the scholarships because it's like one hundred dollars(a month, maybe; I've forgot that much) and you can eat as much as you want.

I wouldn't really call playing sports in college a job seeing as other organizations in school put just as much if not more time and effort into what they are doing. For example A College Theatre the students are spending countless hours going over lines, rehearsals, then performances they also go through making the costumes, the sets, directiong, the lighting, pretty much everything to do with it and if college athletes are getting paid they should as well.
