So tomorrow I am off to get the blood work done to test me for anemia and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid). Does anyone know much about these? Are they anything to worry about?

I had a history of Anemia. If I am right, Anemia is simply a disorder caused by Malnutrition - Malnutrition either from a genetic disorder(Not absorbing) or not consuming food.
Anemia is where you have less blood than what normally you should have, or less hemoglobin in your blood. Cobalamin or Folic Acid and Iron are needed for a well blood regulation and development. There are, of course, other things that results in Anemia. And it is more critical to Women than Men.
Anemia is a worry because it leads to other unpleasant disorders(Much like HTN, Diabetes and other Chronic Disorders). Your body lacks oxygen, which pretty much a trouble itself - it is like getting strangled without you noticing it.
------
I am not very familiar with Thyroidal disorders(I am more on Adrenal ones).
After taking a look at wiki - I found that Anemia and Hyperthyroidism are a indeed a deadly couple. We are talking about being bedridden for a long time here. So, I hope your tests comes with good news.

I was tested for hyperthyrpidism about a year ago and my mum has hypotyroidism. As you probabaly already know it is caused by your thyroid gland producing too much of a hormone callled thyroxine. This disease can be an autoimmune disease meaning that it is caused by your immune system attacking you instead of what it should be attacking.
Hyperthyroidism causes symptoms such as fast heart rate (palapatations), intolerance to heat, fatigue and weight loss. There are many more symptoms.
There are many tablet treatements for this and the majority of people can live a normal life :)
Hope i helped.
