sounds like your isp is having problems with their dns servers. if they have a status page i'd go check it or report it to them and maybe keep a diary of the times of when it happens. maybe they have different dns servers you could use that work better than what you use now.

i though it was the isp, but its only my compter thats doing this. my granparents comp in another room seems to work fine.

go into command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" and make a note of the dns. (ifconfig in linux). if it breaks and you reboot, see if the dns server(s) changes. i'm assuming you get these settings from the isp but i might be wrong about your set up.
if other things are getting disconnected you could be on a flakey wireless connection and getting dropped?
might be worth comparing the network settings on the machine that is ok with yours (also check are they using the same proxy as you).
Oh and another good thing is to run a ping test to your router (ping -t ) and when it happens check if there are gaps in the reponses or slow responses that would show if it is like the connection to your router. if that doesn't show a problem try the same thing back to a server or whatever at your isp.

Thats all i can think of right now. Had the exact same sort of thing here drove me nuts but that was the isp in the end and all ok now thank god.

ok. it seems to be working now. one of the plugs in my wall was a little loose so pluged it in. only time will tell tho if it really worked. could that have been the issue?

Yes, it could, especially if it's a network connection or a wire for the Modem.

Is it still working properly?
