I saw this video about the Shroud of Turin and how it supposedly has the imprint of the face and body of Jesus Christ on it. This is very controversial, but interesting as well. Anyways heres the link...

As a Christian, I'd like to believe this IS real, but I am also very skeptical about this.

I'm an evil atheist scumbag without morals and/or a conscience, but I thought what Jesus wanted was people to be more focused on his message than he himself. Or was it Muhammad that didn't want to be worshipped?
All you desert religions confuse me.

When I read the title, it was to the jingle for those "real men of genius" commercials.
Also, idolism is a sin you fucking heathen.

I thought the Old Testament doesn't count anymore. Or is that only for the rules that are too crazy to believe in?

Coyote makes a good point. If the Shroud turns out not to be Jesus, then you guys are all idolaters.

And whether it is or not, it shouldn't matter. Whatever happened to "earthly and material things are bad"? Religious people should not care what Jesus looked like.

True, but...its fucking Jesus! Even I care what he looked like and im not even christian. Imagine all the people that spend their lifetimes worshiping him.

Most Christians don't believe in it. After seeing the passion of christ I did research on that sweat rag and all the christian links i found said it wasn't real. Of course that was back when I was actually semi religious.

Does that mean we're going to hell?

There is no Hell. But that's another debate and a tangent I'd prefer not to get too deeply into in this particular thread.

Multiverse anyone?
Hell does not exist because there is no heaven (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=74511) to begin with.
Or
God does not exist, so simply there is no hell and heaven.
I, however, do believe in a conceptual Hell. I will make a web log, if you want to know more about it. ;)

Not necessarily darker, remember, he was Jewish. But he should not look typically caucasian, no.

Ok, I guess I should have clarified this in the description.
NO, I do not idolize a piece of cloth!
I just thought it was interesting is all...

Anything can be interesting if enough people are staring at it. Alas, that does not make it more than it really is.

Yes true, but as I said earlier, Even I am skeptical about this. I think the guy in the video says it best, "That's an accurate picture of whoever the shroud belonged to, but it's unclear if it belonged to Christ"

Unless God gave Angel Gabriel the power to turn people magically white as the annunciation happened, I say it's totally improbable.

It's fairly old and accurate indeed. There were no actual methods that can be used aside from laying it on a dead man. The problem is, whose face is it? Science and faith has yet to find the answer.

To most Christians yes it is some kind of sacred book, but for most parts it's still a book.

nah they proved the shroud was medieval by carbon dating i thought? but i think it still an amazing piece of art or whatever. i'm not religious but i'd like to read a translation of the dead sea scrolls which i think are the oldest copy of (some) of the bible before all the words got twisted by later generations.
