Ok ive wondered this while listening to my Japanese music :P (Love my DeathNote soundtrack lol) . Do you believe if we all spoke the same language that it could lead to fewer problems and disputes. Im taking in mind it could also mean that some civilizations wont be as unique and ethnic as i like them but do you believe that if we all magically spoke the same language from when the earth began, it'd be a more peaceful world?

Hmm... Nice idea. But it has it's cons...
If everyone spoke same language, that means almost same culture. Same clothes, and only one type of food ( Imagine if everybody spoke Chinee for crying out loud!).
Speaking diffrent lnguages makes your mind work and I always think "What would be the translation of this and that..."
It is fun and healthy to learn and try to speak other languages.

yeah, it would be a bit boring if we all had the same language, clothes, and culture.

I fail to see how learning a universal language robs us of individuality. If we all learned the same language, our diverse clothing and food wouldn't just dissipate, it would remain unaffected. Native ethnic language would still exist, but if everyone was bilingual (at least) and fluent in such a universal language, it would certainly be convenient. However, I don't think that alone would make us more peaceful.

Well a few years ago someone, was it the French(?), tried to create a 'universal' language. You've probably heard of it... it was/is called Esperanto. It was supposed to be the easier language to learn because it's a mix of English and French and has something like 500 words. The rest is filled in with English.
To be honest, there is already a universal language, just not one that literally everyone can speak. I'm talking about English.

i dont think the issue is that governments lack the ability to communicate these days and its them that decide we have to fight another lot
i've heard a theory that when we are all a sort of light chocolate colour and religion is forgotten the world will be perfect. Not totally sure about that one either.

An artificial language devised in 1887 as an international medium of communication, based on roots from the chief European languages
Google Chrome Dictionary.
Universal language would be both cool and weird. I find it interesting to hear another language you can't understand and learn; where it is also nice to understand someone without an interpreter.

If we all spoke one language we could build a gigantic tower to the heavens[/biblicalallusion]
But seriously, I think.... that it wouldn't help much XD
People who speak the same language get into fights all the time, having a world-wide language might make things easier, but it wouldn't cause world peace :p

There's always going to be a language that people use as a default language for international purposes. English is extremely popular, and Spanish is equally useful, especially here in the Americas. And of course, Latin was used during the days of the Roman Empire. However, I don't think that you can get everyone to speak the same language. Take India, for example- it has English as an official language, and many people speak English there- but at the same time, they speak their native language as well. I think it's human nature to hold onto your culture for as long as possible. I mean, the same goes with me- even though I was born in the United States, I still speak Spanish with my family sometimes, watch TV and listen to music from Spain, and support Spain in the world cup (in your face, Holland! :D)

Assuming that people did speak the same language, I don't see how it would resolve conflicts. People can have the same language yet have different cultures, religions, sexual orientations and whatever else. Those are often the fuels or sources of the conflicts. Take an example of English as it's spoken in most of the world yet there's still many prevailing issues with other English-speaking people.
It may even start problems when you consider people who are deaf (or to be politically correct, deaf and Deaf) and need to use sign language, which is recognized as a language and each sign language differs from the other just like spoken languages. So if only spoken languages are used, then it puts these people outside the rest of humanity since they cannot communicate verbally.
Also, some people will want to have their own secret code words or even their own language so they can discuss things with each other in their own little group, so even if others hear it, they cant understand it. They may want this even if they can communicate verbally. This may create some frustration especially if others believe they're being made fun of in this secret language, so they may want that language abolished or they'll form another language for the same purpose.
