Should people need a license to have kids?

No, I honestly don't think so. The only instance where I think licenses should be implemented is if there are over population issues. As a female, I do not want the government telling me when I can and can't have a child.

I understand the merit behind the idea: to weed out people who obviously shouldn't be parents, such as people seeking welfare checks, people with a history of being abusive, people who recklessly participate in unprotected sex, people who don't have the finances and will end up on welfare, etc; But when you dig deeper into the issue, it just becomes a mess. "You're pregnant? Well, you don't qualify to have a child license, you're court ordered to get an abortion or to put the child up for adoption."... it just doesn't sound right.

Before birth control or temporary sterilization get mentioned: forcing people to take pills or putting chemicals in their bodies against their will is wrong, the government has no right to dip their fingers into your personal life and tell you what to put in your body.

That's a terrible idea. You're regulating one of the most natural activities in existence. It would be impossible to regulate and would encourage the birth of some locked-down, communist-style society.

I think this is a really bad idea. Yeah, there's a lot of people who just shouldn't be having kids, but it's their right to have them. You can't take that away from them, that would be almost like communism, which isn't how our country works.

To my mind it worse than the one child policy in China, its about deciding who is fit to have kids. That line of thought would allow some rich, middle class couple to have as many kids as they want while ruling out some one else on christ knows what grounds.

Well, I guess I'm going to be the hated contrarian here, because I believe you should need a license to have kids. You need a license to breed animals, to fish, to drive, to own a gun, yet any moron can become a parent?

I saw a program about this. I think Hitler was a fan of this sort of thing (seriously). it came out of some screwed interpritation of darwin's work i think and was like breeding people like horses or whatever to get rid of undesirable things. Only problem was undesirable was not just health stuff it was things like homosexuality and skin colour and all that sort of thing. So who gets to decide who gets a license?

Or mebbe i'm taking this too seriously lol.
