Paris' Eiffel Tower and its immediate surroundings underneath were evacuated Tuesday evening after an anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat, the French capital's police headquarters said.

About 2,000 people were cleared from the 324-meter (1,063-foot) monument on the banks of the Seine River, and police were checking it for suspicious objects, a spokesman at the police headquarters said. He declined to give his name, citing department policy.

Eiffel Tower security services made the decision to clear out tourists and workers following the threat, the spokesman said.

Despite the scare, tourists and curious Parisians continued to mill around the surrounding sidewalks, and traffic continued to circulate nearby. Several police trucks were posted under the tower, and officers stood guard.

The tower is France's most popular monument, and last year, 6.6 million people visited it.

Probably. With all the people barging in and out as tourists, I bet it's one hell of a target for Commies. And terrorists.

Eiffel Tower can't be a target.
Because it is impossible to tell wheter there will be 100 or 1000 tourists at the time of detotanion. Instead, they will target trading centers or government houses.

Does anybody know Omegle? I was video chatting there and saw a guy who didn't leave the conversation. He said he was from afghanistan and said he was a terrorist, and showed a bullet scar over his chest.
He said that on 10th December, a plane will crash on the White Hosue ( or did he tried to say Capitol building?)
Probably it is a joke but it makes sence :D

This Eiffel news reminded me the game "The Saboteur", anybody played it ?

Thats not necessarily true.
Its not always about civilian deaths
the psychological impact of losing the Eiffel tower, the very heart of Paris would be earth shattering to the French people and the western world as a whole. That would be like losing the Roman Colosseum, or a pyramid, the impact on the nations people as a whole would be severe.

Exactly. It is of historical and cultural importance. If someone mentions Paris, Eiffel tower pops in my mind!

These thing are relics. These are like limbs to its people. So, Ms.Whisper is correct here.
