But as I got older, I realised I need them more than I ever thought.

I know a few people who would legitimately be better off without their parents. I think that's pretty hard to say since I think it really takes a lot to be a bad or neglectful parent, but in all honesty, some people would really do better.

For me personally, I definitely needed my mom throughout childhood and I still desire for her to be somewhat involved in my life, but I know for a fact that I DO NOT need my dad. It's different from person to person. I think for the most part, everyone needs their parents, but I don't think all families need or work the same way.

I agree with Alex. Yeah, sure I complain about my parents. Its a typical kid thing to complain about their parents. But without my parents I doubt I'd have got this far. They've given me everything and looked after me throughout periods of surgery and illness, something I can't even do for myself. I think at some stage in life everyone needs help from their parents at some point, but like Alex said, some genuinely are better off without theirs.
