Staring a relationship online

Ok well im a senior in high school and im not around any one i would even consider going out with or if so they are the wrong sexual orientation.
I was on this social site like facebook and stuff and this guy in my area started talking to me, and i kinda like him and he kinda likes me. SO im wondering since you cant trust people online all the time, should i further this relationship and see him or should i keep my distance and just stay online friends?
