There is no good music being released anymore. Avenged Sevenfold's new Nightmare album is okay, and System of a Down is still on "hiatus".
Metallica's Death Magnetic is one good recent album I can name.
I'll just stay in the 60s, 70s and 80s, thank you very much.

True, I probably don't.
However, I stand by my statement. When it comes to mainstream music, none of it is good. There are probably some good underground bands, but I have no interest in finding them.

Why not? I can name a Finnish band that is semi-underground that face rapes so many modern "metal" bands. They don't scream, but they do growl on the rare occasion. There are a lot of good modern bands, but they are overshadowed by mainstream; some mainstream is good, though. You are that guy who is like "hurr durr, all modern music is bad and only music from the sixties to the eighties is good, huuuuuuur." That attitude is annoying and false.
As for my favorites songs of the year? The Talisman and Mother of Mercy from Iron Maiden. Their entire new album is a work of art.

I never said ALL modern music is bad. I just don't think it's as good as older music. I'm sure there are plenty of not-as-famous bands that kick ass, and I will take suggestions.
I refuse to be called the metalhead who's stuck in the past. I have some recent bands in my library, and they're all awesome.

I already listen to Coheed, it is agreed that they are awesome.
I'm sorry, but I can't get used to the vocalist for Machine Men and I don't like the screaming in the Alesana and As I Lay Dying songs. That's just me though :P
The primal fear song was good, I'll look into them.
I also do love instrumentals, Animals as Leaders also sounds good.

Then don't say that everything released lately is bad now if you know they're probably is good underground music. And you not wanting to look for them proves your closed mindedness to music.

I meant in the mainstream sense. And I don't want to go looking because I'm feeling particularly lazy at the moment.

Lead singers voice is awful. It doesn't have any epicness, climaxes, progressiveness, or experimentation to it that interests me. I know people define it as progressive rock, but this band really makes that genre sound like fucking shit. They'll never be anywhere near as close to good as Porcupine Tree or King Crimson.

I always thought Coheed was more alt rock band prog rock. I think they're supposed to be a mix of both.

What? Claduio Sanchez's voice amazing. I disagree with you until the last sentence because I haven't heard Porcupine Tree or King Crimson because I'm not a big prog person.

Then you really can't argue with my second or third sentence if you don't listen to the genre much.

deffinatly has to be Mumford & sons, the album came out last year but 2010 in US so it counts! honestly they're the best modern band i've found in a while now, i've been getting to grips with more golden age thrash like Megadeth and Metallica but they really stood out to me. And of course the obvious booty obsession any teen will have on Katy Perry and Kesha.
The Madness.

I'm not sure if there's an album I like from this year..I guess the new Ozzy Osbourne album 'Scream' was alright. It wasn't the best though.
