When people say emo they talk about slitting their wrists and being gay and shit like that and really I'm FED up with listening to it. Emos are just emotional right? That's it? I don't want to be labeled. That's not who I am. I try to be a peaceful person and I love people and I believe everyone is beautiful and I'm almost like a modern hippy but I've got a hard life at home and I've got a haunting past and I need to ... Cut but... I don't NEED it literally- people catagorize people like us as freaks and and people with a mental illness but I'm not! And ughh... I don't know- sorry... Any thoughts?

You're correct. Emos are not gay, not all of them slit their wrists or write poetry. Emos are just emotional. EMO, EMOtional. If you don't like being labeled, then why don't you set them straight?

Labels are ridiculous. People throw them around like they actually define people, like anyone who isn't 'normal' is emo, goth, and God knows what else. We live in a ridiculous world, and it really says a lot about the maturity of a person if they feel the need to label you as something, and then assume they know everything about you because they have done so.
'Emo' says nothing about a person. So what if you're a little emotional? What's wrong with emotion? So maybe you feel your emotions a little bit differently than everyone else does. But there's beauty in being different. A lot more beauty than in being just like everyone else.
Strive to be yourself, no matter what anyone might call you. The victory isn't confining to the way of the world and letting others define you. It's creating your own label for yourself; not letting what others may call you get in the way of who you really are. Anyone who calls you emo really doesn't know you. Only you know who you really are, and only you have earned the right to label yourself, as whatever it is you want to be.

Emo is a sub-culture. Nuff said. But If you happen to dress like them, listen to their music, then people will end up calling you an emo.

I absolutley hate labels!! It's like people in one country at War with the other- defining themselves to who their 'friends' think they are. It limits the world from love and friendship and that's not right.

I just don't like the people who give us that stereotype. There are people trying to fit in that dress like that and cut to be "cool," which ends up making people who like the clothing style and people who cut for... well, MORE valid reasons (not that there's ever a valid reason to hurt yourself) called emo, which they're not. It infuriates me. I don't even shop at Hot Topic, and emo is a word I would hear on a daily basis in high school, toward me.
Why are labels even necessary? It just proves how ignorant the human race is becoming. Everyone needs a group and everyone needs to stay in that group. *sigh*

(Emo)-tional the reason why they call u that is because people dont cut their selfs for the hell of it. The half to be emotional. And dont do it.

Nothing personal, but cutting yourself could be considered as a mental illness, because you "need" to cut yourself to deal with stress.

Words have as much power as we give them. bullies are often emotionally stunted or dealing with their own bad past. don't react don't feed the troll. don't give them power over you. just simply define what an emo is and say politely please get your facts straight next time. or simply don't react

i hate that word. so. fucking. much.
no, you're not emo, and they're only saying it because its something so alien to them, they'd rather mock it than understand it.
you're not mentally ill, you've had a rough time, and have ended up doing something you should'nt over it, it happens.
if people aren't gonna take the time to understand you, those people aren't worth your time.

I got called Emo by some 15 year old kid and I wanted to yell at him that Emo and Cutting isn't relevant to each other. Emo has become a type of style, it doesn't make you emo to cut they're not even the same. Like STFU people, we're messed up we're not Emo, emo's a genre of music now. Sorry scattered and makes little sense.

Emo isn't anything to be proud of. It started out as some sensitive goth kids, and has evolved into scene whores and attention whores. It's disgusting. Anyone who uses emo seriously to define a person isn't worthy of the right to hurt you.
You decide what hurts you, just you.

Ok, so labels aren't anything and I repeat ANYTHING in the world. It's a way to put people in a high place, or low. To me, labels don't EXIST!!!!!! And if you're emotional, you are EMOTIONAL. If you are going through a hard time and cut, then ( I think you get it) you're GOING THROUGH A HARD TIME AND CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's it. You like what you like, and LABELS DON"T DO CRAP FOR THE WORLD!!!!

Labels like this are simply used by ignorant people to define something they don't understand, or don't want to. Better to ignore it.

Labels suck - I get called emo for listening to Paramore for crying out loud!

No.
That stereotype died a long time ago.
People that moan and whine with "why can't everyone stop judging me for listening to MCR and wearing black skinny jeans FML" annoy me more than the people who are making the assumptions in the first place.

They should really get a life.

Well supposing you posted in September, I doubt you'll read this.
But just ignore them. Its pathetic. There was a time in February 2010 when someone who knew about my SH told everyone. Everyone's forgot now, thank god, but I got called emo alot. Don't let it get to you, they're nothing more than ignorant idiots.
