Glacier

Breath taken as the glacier glides across
The frigid arctic waters. Oxygen inhaled
As the glacier shakes from side to side
As if about to sink, but then catches itself,
Supports itself and regains its balance.

Carbon dioxide exhaled as the glacier
Begins to bifurcate into even halves
That fluoresce a shimmering light blue
And glimmer in the midday sunlight.

The blue shimmers so bright
That it is nearly white, but the cold
Water origins of the substance remain
Visible to the eyes of the individual, who breathes,
Let’s in and let’s out what is in the air
And scopes, from afar,
What is left inside the glacier:

Coalescence in the form of a frozen cage
With no bars, but no escape.
A bond unbreakable
That does not engender a smile
On the face of the beholder
But produces a cringe
In the clouds above him.
