View Full Version : Sexuality Addon

Hey guys, I don't know if someone has suggested this before but it's just a idea.
How about adding a 'sexuality' column to the user info under your avatar.

If it was to be added here's what it would look like,

Interesting idea, but someone will be asking for "Penis size:" there next. It makes it seem like the whole focus of vt is about sex and sexuality and that shouldnt be the case really.

It's not necessary. If anyone wishes to share that information, that's what the 'biography' profile field is for.

it would get rid of these stupid signatures.

IM BI ;) ADD ME LOL TEHE ROFL IM BI :)

You're telling me it would be possible to add font that size and have it colored too? lol.

Well here's a different idea posting it here will save me time of making a new thread.

Mood Add-on -

You can change your moods in your user control panel.
You can change them to preset ones so there's nothing stupid but in.

Sounds like a fair idea to me. I know I'd find it interesting.

Oh and Krezylin, I (personally) don't think that's what the biography field is for. An autobiography/biography is to do with your life story. Sexuality shouldn't be considered as part of your life story; it's just something of your identity that doesn't necessarily make you any different from anybody else. I'm not saying that's what you were meaning, I'm just basically saying I don't believe that sexuality is necessarily appropriate for the biography field.

Not necessarily. I know a lot of people where sexuality is a big part of their life, and it presents a lot of problems and struggle. Sometimes what people go through in their life changes them, and it's story worthy in my opinion.

Either way, the biography bar isn't the most ideal place. In my view anyway.

There doesn't need to be a place for it. Nick put it best...

Yeah it might not need a place. I just liked the idea myself.

why do people need to know someone's sexuality?

this isnt a dating site

That would probably get abused too.

Mood: Horny
Mood: Wanking
Mood: Naked

Nice idea and I do wish that it could be implemented. Regardless of if there's a need for it. It's just not going to happen.

meh, you can just put it in your signature and as Pasalaqcua said, this place is not a dating site.

This is a help and advice site. So many people have said it, it shouldn't even be repeated. This isn't a site to meet other people like you and become social with them, though that is one of the perks. It is a site where people ask for help and receive it from people who care.

This is not needed. It's not a "Come meet other gays site."

actually there might be a way around this. the admin can create a list of different moods, and THESE "moods" will NOT be in there. all the moods will be appropriate, like "angry", "happy", "bored" etc.

True, i used to be on a site, eon's ago, that had a mod that a little mood dropdown on your profile with six little "mini-user bar" like moods. However, this is a help site, not social networking, as mentioned many times above.

Now if it were statuses, where the user could type whatever they want, I could see the reason to disagree from a moderation viewpoint.

Right, I know that. The mood addon won't be added anyways. I was just saying :P :P

actually i wouldn't mind it. i think it should be very optional and people may or may not use it but hey, idk.

I mean, I think it'd make me feel like this is a dating site. Like people use this site to meet people who are bi and gay, etc. Which they really shouldnt, but i feel like adding that would only encourage it.

Anyone else of the opinion that they just dont give a shit?

Im straight and I dont go around sharing my preferences with everybody...

I couldnt care less if you are gay or not...

True but then people would probably complain that there wasn't enough or something. Who knows, there's always something to complain about. Anyway, that's not the topic and that's never going to happen.

I think both the sexuality and mood addon are completely pointless and never going to happen

Harley Quinn

what's next.. customisable profiles?

If you didn't notice that was me being sarcastic. What I mean is, VT really shouldn't be adding all these new ideas, even though they are good, because it would make the site very generic, and would take away the whole focus of the site. Which is help, and I don't think knowing someones sexuality - especially if it's under the actual user face would be considered help. It wouldn't make people stop the big ass sigs or anything, rather give them more options of where to put it. It isn't needed, but, hey if it happens it happens

Why? Its a profile, not an autobiography. Its fine the way it is

In my opinion no. There is no need for it. This is a help and advice site. If people want to customize their profiles, that is what social networking sites are for.

Like what's already been said, this is a help and advice site. If we ad thing's like sexuality onto the profile, it might imply that we are also a dating site, which we are not. customizing profile's would be a good idea if we were a social networking site, but again, we aren't. Adding these features would take away the novelty of this site, and making it more about, "who has the best profile" and that,s not what virtualteen is about. This is a help and advice site, and none of these features are needed in any way.

sorry about that earlyer post is was in an awfully s***y mood(parents where fighting again) any way I agree with the fact it isn't racisum on vt witch is a help site for teens and alot of people on this site are indeed gay(nothing wrong with it)it's just I feel this has been turned into a dating site and I want that to change so I prepose we clean up vt and get rid of this bull

all that is is racisim and bullying waiting to happen
think about it...........what if their not straght(i am though) then what?!

Not here it's not. VT has a rather sizable gay population. The bigger issue would be people using it as a way to hook up.

Nexus
September 18th, 2010, 02:31 AM
I think it's a fantastic idea.

My suggestion though, since there seems to be some uncertainty in how it play out on VT, would be to offer the feature as a trial to test the waters. It could go either way, so I think it's worth a shot.

georgiamay

I still don't think it's a good idea. This is not a social networking site, and it's not a dating site. There's no need to have that. If someone wants to tell people they're gay, bi, or straight, they can do one of the many surveys in p101, or put in the "about me" section of the profile. It's a good idea for dating sites, and social networking sites at a stretch, but this is a help site, and there's no reason to have a sexuality addon.

I agree, even if you failed to realize that racism had nothing to do with sexuality; however, I feel a sexuality add-on would only open portals for discrimination and sexuality cliques to be formed. And before the "not on VT" comments, yeah, it can happen if the opportunity is presented before the members.

As for the mood update, I disapprove of this also. This isn't a social networking site. If we add this, then what next? Status updates? Why not just become one big Myspace? No, it's against the primary functions of a help site.

I'm against both ideas.

Totally agree with you.

If the mood was a restricted choice (like it was on myspace I think) e.g. happy sad angry bored etc etc its fine cause we could keep it reasonably clean.

I like the idea but don't see any major benefits or major cons of having it either.

I personally think that if someone wants to share that, then the biography section is the appropriate place. If people see right away what someone's sexuality is, they could hold preconceived ideas about them. I think that if someone is interested enough to read what that person has to say about themselves, that's fine- but get to know the person before learning about something so important, you know?

I think both of these ideas should be thrown out. Especially the mood one.

Why advertise something like sexuality? Especially on a teen site.
So many people will pick the "bi-curious" option, or leave it blank - and I think sexual soliciting would go up with this.
Just be yourself and people will get to know who you are on this site.

And the mood option? Ugh with so many depressed people and self harmers on this site, it'll just be another outlet for them to go "ooo I'm so depressed". I think it'll kind of be like those really annoying people on Facebook? You know the ones that update their statuses many times a day, and say "gawd I hate er'thing" and then later say "man I'm so kewl happy!"

If it were limited to only picking certain options, I think the same thing would still apply. And some will forget to change it, so it'll be inaccurate.

So really I think we shouldn't do either of these ideas.
