So my bf got me a hair straightener last month and I just opened it. I want to use it now but would it give off some kind of smell once plugged in since its new. I don't want my parents finding out that I have a straightener. Like I want to use it so bad.

When my bf straightened my hair I could smell the heat. In his room for a bit after he was done with my hair. But woukd a new straightener just opened and plugged in for the first time give off any strong heat smell which they could smell downstairs is my main question.

If so I ill just use it tomorrow aftrer school when im the only one home.

Respond quickly if you can please.

Doesn't really sound normal...

Why don't you want your parents to know about it?

Uh, if you're talking about a smell, that could be YOUR HAIR BURNING. Buy heat protectant or turn down the heat on the straightener. If you see a little steam, it's too hot so yes, it'll leave a smell, you're burning something.

Yes, when they are brand new they will give off a smell the first few times you use them. This normally happens with ceramic plates because they tend to absorb oils from the plastic or even have natural oils placed into them.

My straightener had avocado oil treated into the plates so when I first used it, it gave off a strong smell. This could last up to a month, but if it doesn't go away after that it may be your hair or a malfunctioning straitener.

Like said before though, make sure that you use heat protectors for your hair if you get the chance to use them, and always set it on the lowest heat that is effective for your hair.
