Currently, I only have enough money for one or the other, and I both want them really badly. I know that you guys aren't me, and that I should make the decision myself, blah blah blah. I've thought about this for a while and I can't make up my mind.
Vocal lessons- I already love performing, and I have two very talented instrumentalists ready to add me into their band if I get vocal lessons.
iPod- Music is my life, and I've wanted one for a long time.

Vocal lessons.
You can buy an ipod sometime later, in the mean time you can make do with a much cheaper mp3 player. Buying an ipod wont change your life, vocal lessons probably wont either, but they could.

I voted iPod, but Nick raises a good point. Go with a cheaper MP3 player, and do both. (Or at least have a shorter wait until you can raise the difference to pay for the voice lessons.) However, getting a music playing device is in IMO, more important than voice lessons, as it makes it easier for you to practice on your own.

Practicing on your own does nothing if you don't have a good voice.

OKay seriosuly, people need to stop buying ipods
I've listened to a Go gear Mix, then after listened to an Ipod with the same headphones. The Ipod sounded like fuzzy shit. Mainly cause Ipods are made for pop music with boring drum beats and quiet bass guitars. The only reason a Ipod is expensive is the useless games and stuff it comes with. If you're going to buy a music player, get a good one.

Get the voice lessons, you never know what could happen if you know how to sing well, and the iPod isn't going anywhere in the meantime. If you get the iPod, you may not be able to get voice lessons later, so I chose that.

I've gotta say I disagree on that. When I started, my voice was actually rather poor. I did most of my practice on my own, and that's what made the major improvement in my voice. (Well that and the fact that my voice stopped randomly breaking. :P)

If you've got a poor voice practicing on your own isn't going to help you improve, you don't have someone there telling you where you go sharp or flat, or how to sing it properly without straining your voice. Practicing on your own does nothing if you don't have a good voice to start off.

Well practicing on your own is what you do between the lessons, that's why the lessons are important.

Which is kinda what I'm saying. You can't expect to become a great singer by just practicing on your own which is why I said school choir and an ipod that way free vocal lessons almost daily.

That's not entirely true. The singer of my favorite band, who is one of the best in the world, never took singing lessons and he is widely acclaimed as amazing. Matt can still do well without lessons if he was to do choir or something, but I think you should go with the lessons, Matt, for an iPod can be bought at anytime, y'know?

Vocal lessons. It sounds fun, and you'll definitely benefit from it. And while you're taking lessons, you can save up for an iPod. :)
I've actually never really "practiced". But I found that singing in my car helped alot. :P And now I've actually recorded a few covers to some of my favorite songs. It's a natural talent. Some people just aren't ment for singing. Some people are.

I bought an MP3 player for $20 this summer. It's simple, but it plays music, has 4 GB of storage, has a built in microphone and FM radio, and its quality isn't less than that of my brothers' iPods.
They got their Nanos for $180.
Apple stuff looks good, but is honestly way more pricey than it needs to be. As with many things in life, they charge that price for the brand, nothing else.
You can go mow someone's lawn for $20 these day. So get the vocal lessons. Be a bit proactive and search for opportunities (there's a youth resource center in my town which helped me a lot, maybe there's something of the sort where you live) and you can achieve both of your goals.

iPods is something that can last longer and give you more faster than working at vocal lessons for a long time

Depending on how long you want the lessons, it'll probably start getting expensive if you get vocal lessons.

Vocal Lessons!
iPod is nothing. Skills are better than items. Use your skills to buy items - meaning: preform in that little band. Who knows! You and your band could end up being on the next Top ten list.

I am a strong disbeliever in vocal lessons. All the bands I listen to never took voice lessons. Practicing on your own can help, so why pay for it. Shitty techniques that a voice teacher will give you only help for singing like a school girl -.-

It's good to know what pitch you're singing in, y'know.

Not really and I am willing to bet that the bands you listen to have had vocal lessons after they got famous. When bands or artists record they always have someone right there telling them when they are too sharp or too flat and helping them with their pitch. No one can get famous on their own there will always be someone to push them.

I voted vocal lessons. It's good to learn proper techniques, even though you may learn some boring repertoire. I take vocal lessons and it's definitely helped me improve.

If it were me, I'd get the iPod. Mainly because I can't sing :) But if you are a good singer, and think it would be worth it, go ahead and do the vocal lessons.

Vocal Lessons
An ipod's gonna break or be outdated within 10 years, singing will last you much longer ^__^
Which reminds me, I wanna take lessons....
