View Full Version : Is it racist to only find one race attractive?

I would consider myself not to be racist. I must admit, I do sometimes have a slightly prejudice view on things, but I would never treat anyone differently because of their race/religion/whatever.
But, one thing is bugging me. I have only ever found white females attractive, so does that make me racist??
Hopefully as I grow older things might change. For example, I read this story about this couple, where the guy was white and the girl was black. The guy admits he never found anyone who wasn't white attractive at all when he was younger, but he met this girl at his workplace, and they eventually got married. :)

I don't know, but I share this. I don't know why, but I only find white girls attractive. Don't think its underlying racism, just..... I dunno,.

No,
Its called taste,
If you're saying black people aren't attractive because of what there race is thats racist. But if you just don't find their skin tone, and hair type attractive then its fine.
In my opinion at least.

I agree with Chris, just because you don't prefer their skin tone doesn't really make you racist.

Are you being sexist if you're not bi-sexual? No, you're attracted to what you're attracted to. It's no different than someone who might only date redheads.
The only way it's racist is if you do it because you feel the races shouldn't mix, ever. If you don't have a problem with seeing an interracial couple, then it's just a matter of taste.

I wouldn't say so. It's all about preference. Now If you had prejudiced or biased views on attraction to only one race, than thats a different story.

I think this is just the same concept as preferring blonde hair over brunette. They can't necessarily help what color their hair is (of course, I realize dye, but just go along) but some people prefer others. I think the same goes for races.

Being racist is a conscious thing, in my opinion. You are willingly and disdainfully looking down and mistreating others, all that good stuff. However, in a case like yours, taste and preference aren't something that you sit there and choose. It seems to be inherent, and the fact that you said you treat people like equals shows in itself that you are not racist.
Personal example:
I am black, but the primary race of guys I'm attracted to are Latinos. Does that make me racist against blacks? Not at all. I'd date a black guy at any time. An attraction is not something that we can consciously control. I can't begin to tell you why I like Latino guys so much (Alex Rodriguez, ftw), but I just do. I don't count other races of people out of the equation, yet anyone who's Latino gets an automatic plus in my book. They have certain features that I find amazingly attractive, without understanding why, and my inherent personal tastes and desires are things that just took shape on their own as I grew up.
Ya really can't help who you like. It is what it is.

I believe racism is viewing one or more races negatively, or attempting to advance one race over another. Simply preferring one race to another sexually isn't racist, it's just personal taste. Just because I like white girls more than black girls doesn't mean I hate black people.

It's not racist.
Personally I prefer white boys but that does not mean I hate black people. No.

Racism - The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, esp. so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races - From the lovely Google Chrome Dictionary.
Liking only race in the prospective of dating, etc. is not racist. I like white girls the most because I'm white.

Rasism is doing things in hate because of their race.
Unless your saying you dont like how this race looks because their [insert swear word] [Insert rasist slang term]

Thanks for all the comments! I guess i'm not racist then.
I actually like it when I see an interracial couple together. It shows how society has gradually accepted different races (obviously there is still a long way to go though).
