and i dont mean free memory
the entire memory of the ipod touch

Capacity:6.83 GB
version software:4.0.2

Now you dont have to be look very far to notice that Ipods dont retail with 6 or 7GBs, especialy when mine clearly has 8GB slapped on the back of it
yet when i got it, it was with about 7. something which i thought okay that must just be for the system and hardware and such
so no big deal

But since then ive lost a fair bit more of my memory
which is becoming a problem now since if it continues to drop, im going to be losing space im using on it

All that unusable space is taken up by the OS, and other system stuff. I have the same problem, and its annoying. Unfortunately nothing can be done about it.

The reason that available disk space on your device is decreasing with time is because the operating system is becoming more and more feature rich, which takes up more space on your drive.

What those guys said and...

You think you will get a 21" T.V exactly as 21" T.V? You think you will get an SD card that says 8 GB, do you think you will get in 8 GB? Both are related in some way.

I don't know about the Ipod system or anything. If a virus can infect a chip that's under the skin, no doubt it can infect your Ipod.

Have you scanned it for viruses and such?

The same applies to all storage devices, which include USBs, discs, Memory cards and doodads.
