So i was in a restaurant with my family... and my dad had a scratch on his arm. My little sister pointed this out, as a joke he said "Oh yeah i've been self harming, i tried to cut my wrists earlier as well but because i'm sich a wimp i didn't do very well. I'm emo" Then my mum joined in with "oh yeah your such an emo". I laughed along with this but it hurt. I know that if my parents ever found out they're gonna think i'm doing it to be emo or whatever. People joking about it doesn't usually bother me, you get enough emo jokes about it but they're just doing it to fit in it's not their fault.... but my dad? Surly he should have grown up a bit by now :/ I know ic an't ever tell my parents now and that really hurts.

It can be bad enough someone who doesn't fully understand why we cut making fun of us.. but your own dad.. I personaly thought like you said, he'd be more grown up about it. I hope you're okay.

Yeah my step mum did the same thing when she found out about my cutting. I went to go upstairs, and she shouted after me, "Don't take anything sharp up there with you, we don't want you cutting your wrists again now do we," and then laughed.
Yeah it can be really hurtful, but just remember, your not an "emo". You don't have to be an "emo" to feel the need to self harm.
If he knew about your self harm maybe he wouldn't feel the same way about it. Maybe he'd realise that his daughter is "normal" (sorry, I hate using that word :/) so normal people can self harm too.
I know how it feels hun.

My dad jokes about it a lot. Secret is my mom and I have hid my SI from him or almost 11 months. She of course thinks I stopped and not doesn't stop his jokes. I was clean for six months and recently started again. Im sorry that you have to deal with an immature father but just try and block him out. Good luck hun<3
