I know in the end I'm supposed to make the decision, but I just want to know what you guys think

Every Friday, or most Fridays, I volunteer in an office at a retirement center. I enjoy it very much and the things I do are easy and I really enjoy them. The things I do help the retirement center, and I'm happy about that

My mom wants me to quit and get a job at where she works - 7-Eleven and then I could watch her (she's a cashier) and actually earn money. Problem is, doing what she does isn't my thing though I'm sure if I do it I might get good at it...but...

So should I choose volunteering, where it's easy, what I really like, but I don't get money (Not that I care) or should I choose the job, where I'll be with my mom, get money, but do something I don't like much?

note: my mom doesn't work from 5-11 pm every Friday so I thought of doing both, like only do the job when Mom works, but other times I do volunteering. But my mom may not approve...

To be honest, either is a good choice. I would personally go for volunteering more, because you'll have the choice to do something you enjoy. With a job you're being paid to work there and stay whether you like the job or hate it. Do what you enjoy, your mother should understand that :)

You wouldn't be able to work at the seven eleven. You have to be eighteen, don't you?

I'd stick with the volunteering. It helps to have that kind of experience. And it looks good on a college resume, and job applications.

Oh, man.

I understand that you really want to volunteer instead, but...

Jobs for young people are really hard to come by. It's hard for me to suggest skipping out on an opportunity like that. For the past two summers, I aggressively searched and applied for tons of crappy jobs and didn't get a single one.

Then finally I got an internship somewhere (two years later), but it was unpaid. Money might not concern you now, but you could save it for a time when you will definitely need it.

Do what you want to do, not what your mum wants you to do

I wouldn't get the job unless I needed money and had no other source of income. (Also, this might seem like shameless advertising, but my sig could help you out a lot here. :P)
