It's to deter camming. There is a sticky or announcement about it somewhere, y'know.

^This. It really gets annoying when people don`t read the stickies. Instead, they flood VT HQ.

seeing as the questions already been answered, you didn't really need to say that, and considering the purpose of VT isn't to message people, it's to help others, it cannot matter that much to gain 100 posts before you can send one.

to prevent spam

To a lesser degree, the main reason(s) is the camming and pic swapping.

There are plenty of easy posts to be had on these boards (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4) if it matters so much to you.

Use visitor messaging or use the chat room. People who want to communicate still have mediums available.

This is the best way to put it^. Private messaging limits are set so that cammers/picture swapping doesn't happen, it's purely for your safety and for others. There are a lot of these threads posted around in the HQ there is a search function in the navigation bar. Here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=73076&highlight=100+posts) That link will take you to a discussion where you might understand it a little more. You don't have to rush getting the 100 posts. This site is for help not social networking for that Facebook is available.

What else where you expecting when there are stupid rules like this? I honestly think it's stupid AND promotes spam... a 10 posts rule would make a lot more sense, serve the same purpose and wouldn't promote spam.

Seriously, why make threads complaining about the rules? If you think this site is so annoying and that the rules suck so much then maybe you should leave instead of wasting time. :P

It used to be twentyfive, but that obviously didn't work. One hundred posts isn't even hard to come by. And the people who spam get banned. It's simple.

Rules are in place for a reason. Besides, if someone is asking to cam when they get PM, they get banned if someone reports them. Spam is at the bottom of the trouble list, since posts can easily be deleted by Gmods. Anyway, as everyone pointed out, this is a help site, not a social networking site. And there are the visitor messages and chat rooms. If it is that important to PM right when you join, you obviously have illegal intentions if you refuse to use VM.

this rule is not stupid. it is set for a reason, like the others said. 10 posts is too little, it's too easy to get 10 posts. and also if you spam to get 100 posts you get banned.

You clearly haven't read what any other member on this page has said. Its not to prevent spam, its to prevent the minors on this site being exploited. We get god knows how many members joining a day for one purpose. Camming and picture trading. Which would you prefer, a TEENAGE site which is overrun with paedophiles, or a help site for teenagers and their problems? The short and simple answer is if you don't like the rules this site has in place, you don't have to stay. The rules are in place to protect members. Quite honestly I would rather spend my time helping members on this site, not helping with police investigations because someone got hurt.

This irks me. Just because people want to PM doesn't mean they want to do something bad. I'm not saying they should change the rule (I've given my opinion, but I don't see all the staff sees, so I'm trusting them and keeping my mouth shut), I'm just saying there are valid reasons for people to want to PM. It's not all about sex or camming or whatever. There are valid reasons to PM, even when you're new.

NB: I'm not encouraging complaining. Rule's not gonna change, and the general feeling on the rule is know to the staff, so you're not accomplishing anything. Just get out there and make real posts. You can break 100 within a week easy.
