I use tampons, and after a few days it becomes very uncomfortable to put one in because I'm so dry. Should i alternate with pads or use a lower absorbency?

That happened to me once, when I my period starts to slow down and become lighter, I switch to pads just because it's more comfortable. I don't see anything wrong with using a lighter tampon, but it'll still probably feel uncomfortable.

That happens to me as well, so I'm going to go ahead and say it's normal. :)
Tampons do a great job of really keeping you....dry down there during that time of the month. So, when you take one out and put another one in immediately following, it might be a little uncomfortable because you're dry.
Remember when you were little and learning to swim? Did you use those obnoxious orange floaty things that went on your arms? Well, if not, they're much easier to get on when your arms a little wet.
For the first few days of your period, your flow is probably heavy enough that when you take one tampon out, and put another in, you have.....wetted your vagina.
If that doesn't make any sense at all, I apologize.

I'd switch to a lighter absorbency, or switch to pads. As the others have said, that's completely normal.
