View Full Version : The Python's Venom (poem)

High off the venom of a python's sinister fumes,
The gas emitted from the tip of his split tongue
Spews across my eyelids, blinding me momentarily,
I stagger backwards and almost collapse,
But my left hand supports the weight of my
Entire body and I lift myself back up.

I stand brave yet disheartened,
The python has sped away
And all I can see is acres and acres
Of trees, most dead, their greens leaves
A rusted, swollen haze of gray,
An unverdured shell of their former
Beautiful, elegant selves.

The trees seem to collapse in on me
As I meander through the forest,
With no goal in mind, no desire
To reach an abode that I can call my own,
I just wobble and stumble through
The dusk and awe of a shadowless
Facade of brutish brown and tinted yellow,
A hint of fresh rosebuds sneaks past my nose
But I smell, much fresher, the fetor of
A rotting corpse, probably that
Of a long deceased oak tree.

I reach an opening in the forest
And look up to see the sun beaming
A vibrant yellow, but the sun is so sharp
That it blisters my eyes, swelling them shut.
The beauty of the once fervent forest
Fading from my memory, the darkness
And despair brought on by the vision of
Dying trees and the rotting odor
Left swerving through me, unnerving my senses
Sealed tight inside my body,
The forest is the darkness
That I will forever embody.

Still, amazing imagination.
