Loving You

Loving you by the moonlight
I never took my eyes from your
Green-glazed gaze,
I never moved my hands from your side,
I held you tight, hands clenched,
And felt your heart beat
Reverberate in my own rib cage.

I felt my body shake, tremble,
The aches of love, I could not release
You, for you are more than
Rain is to a nomad in the desert,
You are more than a trophy
Won at a baseball game
Or a prize given for knocking
Three cups down with one ball,
You are mine and in my eyes
That makes me yours

We are not possessions
We are a shared unity,
I press my lips to yours
And close my eyes
Imagining a future
Lined with hopes and dreams,
Painted red and yellow and pink.

The sky is blue but my heart it races
You kiss me harder as I embrace you,
I cannot let go, you push me far
As I climb the wall that had once
Forced me to crawl underneath
Only to find there was no space
To escape, but now, loving you,
I can traverse even the highest mountains
If it means getting to hold you
In my arms, getting to feel your
Heart beat, beating into mine
Making my heart beat
Just a little bit faster.
