I don't think popularity changes how good music sounds. No, AutoTune and computer generated instruments do that.
Music can still be good even if it's not underground

Certainly. Try Piece of Mind and Somewhere in Time. If you like those, you can then try Dance of Death. All of their albums are good. :P Their newest album has blown me away because of how amazing it is.
Kurt Cobain is no genius. He didn't do stuff like this.

This song is better than any Nirvana song combined. True, this song is not revolutionary, but Nirvana wasn't.

August 28th, 2010, 07:31 PM
Ok, Kurt Cobain made really good music, but he's not a "fucking genius". People think his music is original, but that's such bullshit. He was inspired off of Noise Rock and musicians like PJ Harvey, Jesus Lizard, and Swans. He didn't start anything that wasn't done before by a hundred other bands before Nirvana, you just don't know that because those bands were underground.
And define "real music".

Steven Wilson kicks ass. He's a multi instrumentalist and has six different projects - Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Incredible Expanding Mindfuck, Blackfield, and Bass Communion. The guy is a musical genius and always comes up with more amazing shit.

That's cool I guess. It's just Steven Wilson plays a various amounts of genre's - Avant Garde, Psychedelic, Progressive Rock, Ambient, Drone, Art Rock, Shoegaze, and Dream Pop.
Toby Driver of Kayo Dot is another really good multi-musician I appreciate (Kayo Dot, Tartar Lamb, Maudlin Of The Well, and Gregor Samsa).
Trent Reznor was my favorite musician growing up. He's still one of my favorites, but Steven Wilson has been replacing him for the moments.
Of course I'd throw John Zorn and John Coltrane for my favorite saxophonists.

Actually I have, I own them both. They both suck. Green Day is not good. As much as you argue it. They play with heavy distortion, They mess up frequently on live shows. Their lyrics are shit. Honestly, I could probably think of 50 bands off the top of my head who could put them to shame. Note to you. I have over 100k songs... I have listened to Green Day and my opinion is based off having listened to them.

Yeah, I don't wear out on bands easily though. Before Metallica I'd been listening to the Beatles for YEARS, without getting tired of them. Now I listen to twice as much Metallica as Beatles, and I'm getting into other thrash bands like Slayer and Megadeth, as well as prog rock bands like Muse and Rush.

Trust me, I'm not comparing Iron Maiden to Green Day, they're both different genres, Iron maiden focuses on Guitar Solos and shit. but Green Day has a lot more experience then Paramore does. Paramore formed in 2004, Green Day formed in 1987, Green Day has been releasing music since 1989, Paramore releasing music since 2005, Green has sold over 70 million albums, Green Day has more experience, it's just not debatable, I'm not saying Green Day is the best band in the world, but yes you have to admit that they are at least some what good to be as successful as they are.

I know you're not comparing I.M and G.D. It's just Greenday is not good. They do not have experience. Your guitar skills should improve, not stay on powerchords like Greenday does. And just because they're successful does not mean they're good. I will not lie, though. Some of their stuff is catchy, but Paramore is better than Greenday because their riffs, if you want to call them that, are more ear pleasing, if you will, and so is their singer.

Oh, I can reel off a list of legit reasons, but since you asked for one, I'll give you one: her whiny voice is so sickeningly average (if that), there's nothing particularly special about how they've thought out and performed their instruments (to me, it just sounds like rhythms from a mundane pop song), absolutely nothing interesting or exceptional about their lyrical content (my 6 year old cousin writes much more appealing poems about racing cars than Paramore writes words to their generic songs). They are not influential (if you think that then you must have a neurological disorder) in the slightest, and their supposed "musikal
[email protected]!!11" don't outshine any of the GOOD bands that've crafted their music and lycial content extremely well.
Oh wait, that's - let me count - 5 legit reasons, in the form of a paragraph.
