Its a gray area to be honest, iin fact, many politicians are in favor of it but fear the opinions of others and loosing there job because of it. Its sad that in America, the place where your thoughts shouldnt be censored and such, we have politicians who will not speak up because of fearing that there going to loose there jobs. In fact, pretty much every presidintial cannidate has admitted to using cannabis at least once in there lifetime.

It is illegal because of the dangers it poses, not on our health, but big buissness. Hemp totally undermined many compines, it could make many things such as fibers for clothing, it could be used as an effective and cheap product in making Dynomite and cellophane, fibers made from cannabis are the strongest natural soft fiber in the world, cannabis seeds are very healthy for us as well, they contain all the essential amino acids in them. Cannabis paper is the best paper in the world, the Declaration of Independance, which was writtin on Hemp paper, and 200yrs later and it still hasnt begun to yellow.

Hemp was lumped in with Cannabis when it wa made illegal because big buissness lobbyists paid of congress officicals to do so.
Hemp cant even get you high (industrial hemp, the stuff they would use to make paper, cloths, etc...)
Marijuana is the name given to Cannabis that can get you high

Marijuana, in its natural form, has more medical uses than anything else in the world. THC pills like Marinol, arent as effective as natural marijuana buds.
Pharmacutical companys dont like that it has so many uses because you cant patent a plant, and if it was legal, people could grow there own medicine and we wouldnt need many many many synthetic pills anymore. We wouldnt need headache pills, nasuea pills, the weaker pain killers, sleeping pills, anti-deppressants, anti-convultants (sizure meds), etc... anymore because Marijuana helps all of those things, it has so far, at least 200 known medical uses. It does not cause cancer, it does not kill brain cells, in fact, a study has shown cannabis may actually stimulate brain cell growth. It can help slow down or halt the growth of certin cancerous tumors.

Cannabis is pretty much the most useful plant on this planet for us humans, and we have the fucking balls to say its illegal. How the fuck can you make Nature illegal while promoting synthetic medicines?
Doctors say the problem with medical marijuana is that you get high.
well, the side effects of synthetic THC pills, like Marinol, are, exagerated feelings of happiness, drowsiness, increased appitite, well fuck me, i belive thats what a Marijuana high is!!! And what about the side effects of all the pills they push on us?

And on crime, because it is illegal, because of prohabition of it, we have forced crime involvement. If it was legal, weed dealers would be useless to us, the country could tax the hell out of it and if regulation is an issue, use the same laws as alcohol for it, (21 to buy and use, no driving while high, etc)
because we made it illegal, we forced the need for dealers, for the cartels to smuggle and transport it, for crimes to be committed to get it and use it. If it was legal, dealers are out of buissness, drug cartels take a huge blow and will see there profits drop dramatically, and there wouldnt be any crime involved! Many police officers see the hypocricy but dont speak up out of fear of loosing there jobs.

also, Cannabis makes excellent Biofuel. The cannabis plant releases as much oxygen into the air that it would spew pollution when burned as biofuel, effectivly making a closed cycle because it replaces the oxygen it pollutes in equal amounts. This means that pollution rates would drop dramatically and we would have an excellent new fuel source we can grow very quickly and very easily. Its called weed for a reason, it grows just like one, and can survive almost anywhere, meaning that simply by planting a huge field of it, we would put alot of oxygen in the air to replace polluted air.

theres a reason Cannabis is illegal, but it has nothing to do with harm reduction, it has nothing to do with health, it has nothing to do with crime. Its all about the money, Cannabis threatens to completly undermine everything from Alcohol and Tobacco companies, to clothing companys and wood companys to oil companys and pharmacutical companies.
Its a very interesting topic to say the least

ALL drugs should be legalized.

How many more people have to die or get locked up before we start realizing that prohibition will never work in this country?

ALL drugs should be legalized.

All? So PCP, Crystal Meth, Coke, they should all be readily available? I have to disagree. It's just ridiculous. Those drugs are way too harmful. No, we need to make safer drugs like weed legal, to allow for a greater crackdown on harder drugs.

yeah
even if "all" drugs were legalized
1 of them has to be legalized first as a stepping stone

and i say it should be Marijuana

No, but I definitely think that we need to reorganize our schedules of illegal substances, and then legalize the safest group. Did you know that marijuana is considered to be as illegal as heroin and that it's in the same schedule?

Like Sith Lord 13 said, we need to get rid of war on these soft drugs so that we can crack down on the harder drugs that are actually bad.

did you know Cocaine and Methamphetamine are Schedule 2?
meaning coke and meth have accepted medical uses! but weed doesnt? WTF?

Marijuana is more illegal in this country then Cocaine and Methamphetamine!!!

Greater crackdown? We've already thrown billions into the War on Drugs only to have drug use, crime, organized crime and incarceration skyrocket over the last few decades. Not to mention that it has created a huge unmonitored and unregulated drug trade. Having a stricter drug policy would increase the risk and price of narcotics and decrease competition which would only make the trade more lucrative and dangerous.

So?
If a child screams and cries and stamps their foot because they don't get what they want do you give it to them?
If people die, get sent to jail, or whatever the hell else, it's their fault for getting involved with drugs :p

Why should children given cocaine if they wanted to? Same applies to adults who want hard drugs. If they all want is pleasure out of drugs, then give them sweets and some ride at the park.
