View Full Version : Mood Swings?

Okay, so for about a year now, I've been going back and forth between two personalities it seems like. There's a good girl me, and one that is completely opposite (Like, depressed, emo, etc sort of opposite) . I didn't really have a problem with it before, but now it's starting to affect my life and my friends. So, my question is, do I have a split personality, or is it just a stage? And how can I get rid of it? I've heard there are medications, but I'm afraid my parents would think I was weird or something if I asked about them.
Thanks!

Mood swings are a common thing for females; especially when they're going through puberty. I get mood swings frequently as well. Like, one day I'll be nice and chatty with everyone, then the next day I just feel like locking myself in a cupboard until it's time to go to sleep. I say, you should not go for medication; those things can really mess you up over time, trust me. It's just a stage most of us have to go through, so don't worry.

Good point about the meds screwing you up in the long run. That's a scary thought. o.e

i think its normal to a certain degree... depending on how bad it is, maybe you could see someone about it or ask a Dr. I find that if i try to be more self concious about my mood swings they aren't as bad and i'm less bitchy. but i have days too where i can be an angel 1 day and be a total bitch the next.

It's like... I'm not sure if it's a mood swing exactly, I want to see a doctor but I'm not really sure how to ask my parents. It's been going on for a year and it's starting interfere with my life, and I'm not sure how healthy that is. The thing with me is that my good mood will last for like a month and then I'll turn into someone darker. Thanks for replying.

If it's interfering with your life, that's a sign that you should be addressing it somehow. Talking to parents is a possiblity, or talk to a school counsellor - whether or not it's 'just a stage', if it's causing significant problems, then you deserve to get help with it.

Seriously, though, brennaluvv, is there a School Counsellor or Psychiatrist whom you can approach to discuss this? Maybe someone like that can give you advice in confidence...?

It happens to me sometimes. I think it's just a phase that comes with Puberty

I've used to cut when I was 12 because of this problem, I stopped and now it has flared up as a problem again. I've pretty much concluded it's not a phase for me, it's been going on way too long. I'm seeking help from a therapist since there is no counselor at my school.

I'm glad to hear that, brennaluvv, and I'm sure I speak for everyone who's posted here in wishing you the very best with that help... :-)

well my friend is like that but it turned out she was on a couple drugs and when she was off them she was ok. I did know someone else who was like a completely different person when they were taking the pill.

I don't really keep track but I know I get depressed for no reason everyday and then I feel okay and then I want to be someone else rather than myself and then I get depressed again. o.e

The same thing happens to me all the time. It can be a mood swing, which can go on only God knows, or maybe there's an event or underlying occurrence that's causing you to act this way. But if it's really freaking you out, to the point where you can hurt somebody or yourself, talk to your parents or your friends.
I don't think medications will do much good in the longrun.

i know exactly how you feel about mood swings !
it's hell, i am not gunna lie. at times i can get mad the most stupidest things.
listen - i haven't been the real me for the past 3 years.
it was friend related, family related, guy related. i clearly wanted to impress
EVERYONE so i would have a good rep. im even scared to show the real me
at times. you see my highschool - i live in a smaller town but there are
SO MANY PREPS, its unreal. anywho i want to be the real me and what you have
to do is not to listen to all the shit being told - control yourself and be YOU.
i know it is hard - but try your best :)
that's all i can say.
i know that periods can be a factor but people can control themselves.
its a skill that is learned big time :)
