I was thinking if you could offer ranks for people? That stand out from others. For example, VIP? Different colored username and special abilities.

But then already, the colors Red, Green and Blue would be out of question.
From that, people might get confused with people being staff members. I'm sure Ant could use the extra money, but it might also be more of hassle for him to set up such.

This is a help and advice community. There's no special treatment. If you want to donate feel free to. But there's no ranking here.

This says it all.

I only feel that VIP ranks are worth-while on sites that you can receive something worth monetary value back from (like a video game mod site). I am not trying to say that advice isn't valuable, but it really can't be labeled with a specific value.

Maybe having a profile badge for users that are known by moderators to give great advice would be more suited to a site like VT.

What would there special treatment be?

Sounds like the old counselor position to me.

They wouldn't have moderator powers (access to restricted forums, usernotes, etc), but they would be notable among the community with a different colored name? I don't think that is a bad idea...

Who's to evaluate them? It'll lead to arguments and people getting in a huff because they weren't chosen.

Only chosen by the administration upon a majority vote by the moderators. Nominations brought up by the community.

VIPs already exist on the forum, kiddo. You just gotta look harder.

Still gonna lead to arguments and people getting offended when they weren't chosen.

Hmmm... maybe just a "donator" badge for if someone decides to donate to this site. To be honest, it could really use VB4. ;) :P

Kindess shouldnt need to be rewarded or shown off

In some people's eyes, no it should not. In others, however, there is no problem with showing off kindness. It wouldn't be a bad idea to increase donations, but I don't even know if this site accepts donations.

^This.

Why should it matter if you get a shiny badge or not? We're all here to help people, its a help site. Being nice is, well, nice, but shouldn't require an award.

And as mentioned above, it would just cause more issues, and staff getting PM's complaining about "I wasnt chosen, how is it fair that _______ got chosen instead of me" and so on.

I like the idea.

It doesn't have to be anything excessively extravagant, but it'd be nice to have a colored or bolded name or something of the like.

I donated once because I found the site enjoyable enough to do so. It'd be nice to have something in return, but I'll leave that to those in charge.

well there's another way to get VIP, you need like a certain amount of posts, be a member for a certain time, have a certain amount of rep & age minimum but that was for a general chat forum I don't think it will be good here....

I like the idea that people help others not so they can get a badge by their name, but because they want to. I think if you were rewarded for what you do then people would be helping for all the wrong reasons, and it wouldn't feel so good to get kind words from someone, because for all you know they're just doing it for themselves.

I think there is a danger in all of this that people would think that by making a donation they could buy themself into favour and really it cant work like that. If anyone chooses to make a donation that is great, but they shouldnt expect any favours in return.

maybe a "donator" badge, but not "VIP"

i don't see a need for a VIP section here. im sorry but i dont see that happening here in vteen. the whole rep thing and just your knowlege of people makes you known and more special to this place.
