What do you think?

Supporting the war: Feeling it is necessary and must be done.
Supporting the troops: Feeling that, if they're going to be there, they at least deserve the best equipment, resources, and morale possible.

Of course it is. Soldiers are brave people, and they should be respected. They're doing their jobs. This is what they were hired to do and I have nothing against that. I may not support the cause they're fighting for, but they're not the ones who started the war in the first place.

Yes definitely. I agree with both TheDarthEgg and Sage

What do you think?

If there was a way to support the humanitarian efforts that they do, such as what they did for Haiti, then you could support that.

I support the troups because I think that in the cases where we are at war they put their lives at risk for our protection and for our countries protection. I support what they do, but that doesn't mean that I have to support them having to do it.

This, basically.

I completely support our military, in the sense that I respect the people going out there at the risk of their lives to do what they feel is their duty. If they're going to do this, they deserve to have the best equipment and technology at their disposal to prevent deaths on both sides.
This does NOT mean I support the reasons our government is sending troops overseas to fight.

It's like religion. I can respect your beliefs, that does not mean I agree or subscribe to your religion.

It definatly is!
I don't really support the war, but I definatly support the troops.
And it really pisses me off when extremist muslims (not ordinary good muslims) go to homecoming parades here in the UK and call them murderers and say that the soliders should be beheaded. Makes me sick how my stupid country can allow this. Not only does it make people angry, but it also significantly damages relations with the muslim community and makes more people support the racist BNP political party.

(P.S. As you can see I don't like the BNP, but please can no one send me a reputation message such as 'shut up ni*ger lover' like an ignorant person did a few months ago on a different post).

The troops should definatly be supported, as they are risking their lives for their country, but people shouldn't be expected to support the war.

If you're going to support troops going to war but are against war, then why would you want them to go? That's a little hypocritical. Unless you think the only way to solve things is war (which is bullshit).

I never said I wanted them to go, but that's not really my choice. I think American and Australian troops would be better off at home, not going into war, but there's absolutely nothing I can do to change the military's and the Obama administration's positions on this war.

I understand their views make you angry, but one of the main foundations of modern human rights is free speech, and they have the right to say outrageous things like that. Just because a view is so unpopular and trollish that only a handful of people agree with it, doesn't mean that it should be banned.

I have heard that some people think that one cannot do both because it is like supporting a sport team but not want them to play. That seems like a poor analogy.
