My mom comes from a Catholic family so I know what you mean.
I'm not gay but that doesn't mean there can't be equality.

I think your parents' opinions and reactions to your opinion on the issue were to be expected. They are from a different generation, one that did not accept homosexuality as perfectly okay the way ours does. Confidently tell your parents that you are not gay, and try to respectfully change their views on gay marriage (if you want to).
