Hi,

I was just wondering if it was possible to be partially (not fully) mentally retarded? People keep calling me "smart" (the biggest lie I have ever heard from any individual's mouth, hands down). I have have never failed a class (although I will be this year) but I'm always regarded as "the stupid one" in class by a lot of kids. Everybody laughs when I ask a question, so sometimes I refrain from doing so if I don't have to. I hate myself for who I am, and just wish my mom believe in abortions so she wouldn't have had a mentally deficient son.

Yeah, it is actually. Of course, I recommend the usual specialist for confirmation. But there are milder cases of retardation, not quite down syndrome and you can't tell from the outside, but yes, it is possible to have a diluted case of retardation.

Never feel afraid to ask questions though. I usually do, but in French I never do because I skipped French II and I'm above other students so whenever I don't get something, I feel bad. But asking questions really helps in the long run. They're d*cks to laugh, because usually the kids that make fun of the people who ask what seem to be "stupid" questions to them, usually have some unspoken questions themselves.

I feel your pain.

It's possible. Specifically, if your intelligence quotient is lower than usual, then it's already partial retardation.

It is possible for an individual to be nearly mentally retarded as that's the closest to what you're asking. It's not based solely on one's IQ level, although that is part of the diagnostic criteria. Other criteria involve assessing any deficits in adapative behaviors, which can be assessed by tests and interviews. Last criteria is that the diagnosis can only be given to a person 18 years old or younger. If you think you may be mentally retarded or near retardation, you would need to be diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist or a professional dealing in that area.

If you're concerned because of what other kids are saying when you ask a question, it doesn't mean you're retarded in any way. If you got high grades before, you're probably not likely to be retarded and the issue is over self-confidence, self-esteem and possibly awkwardness in class. Nothing with retardation.

hun, no one can professionaly diagnos you here.. what i suggest is talking to a doctor. this will benefit you immensly. if you talk to a doctor they will find out what is wrong with you, and help you in the best ways that they can. if i never went to a doctor for ADD i wouldn't have gotten the meds i needed to focus. same applies in your situation, meaning that you can truely benefit from talking to a doctor. i know how hard it is to ask questions... you feel like any question is a stupid question... but there are people in the classroom that were afraid to ask the question, and asking the question will benefit. you could have social anxiety disorder. no im not diagnosing you, i'm merely stating it's a possibility and you don't have to be partially retarded to do bad in school.
if you really hate asking questions because u'll be laughed at write your questions down on a sheet of paper in class while your thinking about them, and see the teacher in free time or afterr calss to ask the questions. This way your not getting laughed at,and you get your questions answered. don't let jerks in school bring you down.. they have no right to laugh...
with every bad thought about yourself list you 3 good qualities. for example... i hate myself, but i like my hair today.. i learned a new word in another language, i like to help others or something positve. with every negative sitaution list 3 positiv things. - i was laughed at in school, but i read without stumbeling on words, i did better on my english test, i saw Joe shmo today, today i had an ok hair day.
i know ^ the above sounds stupid.. and your thinking why.. should i do this O_o how is that goin to help me? it will get you to think more positively about yoru life. i've been in your shoes, there are days i wish i was never born... but ddoing the above can help you. i kow it sounds stupid but give it a try, what have you got to lose :) good luck hun, i hope i helped a bit
