Who else loves this book as much as I do? I haven't even finished it yet, and I'm completely set on reading it again as soon as I do. It's great! I'm loving Salinger's style of reading. My boyfriend told me it was a great read, after his brother told him to read it, so I picked it up at Barnes and Noble the last time I was there, and started it a few days ago.
I'm about halfway through the book, and I can't put it down!

Third greatest book I've ever read.
Second greatest I've ever had to read for school behind The Poisonwood Bible.
Very good book, absolutely incredible. Sadly it's the only great book by Salinger, a man who had a rather shitty, fucked up life.

I liked it. It was a summer reading book and apparently I was the only person that likes it. A lot of people didn't like Holden because they think he's
a douche.

I enjoyed the literary style, but the plot to me was not appealling.:)

I read it in sixth grade and don't remember every detail, but I know that I thought it was entertaining. I remember the teacher being like "Are you sure your parents approve of you reading this book?" And I still don't understand why they wouldn't. :P

*Spoiler* warning.
Not only the language...he hires a hooker. And talks A LOT about sex.

I guess I can understand why some parents wouldn't want their kids reading it, but the language and sexual things that happened in the book didn't seem like that big of a deal to me at the time. The sort of explicit stuff in the book didn't really bother me.

Oh yeah, I was reading stuff like this when I was that age. The stuff set for my age group was boring to me, I was way past that stuff.
My parents have never monitored what I read. They like the fact that I love reading. I hear the language anyways, hello, I DO go to school. And I watch tv. They'd rather me read something I enjoy than be stuck with something boring because it's 'safe.'
But, I can see where parents may not want their kids reading stuff like that.

I love this book. It's one of my favorites. Holden Caufield is an extraordinary character.
