People say and do so many things in the heat of the moment of an argument. Just talk to her, make sure she knows that you have absolutely no reservations with how she wants to live her own life and that you disagree with your mum.

Just make sure that you don't become the 'piggy in the middle' messenger between them but make sure you keep up your own personal communication with both sides. Things like this normally do smooth out, don't give up :)
