The smoking of cannabis (weed) is the most harmful method of consumption, as the inhalation of smoke from organic materials can cause various health problems. And also everything that you smoke not only weed causes lung disease like cancer. Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite its known harmful effects upon social functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities. Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which make it difficult to quit. These withdrawal symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 2-3 days, and subside within 1 or 2 weeks following drug cessation.
A number of studies have shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia.
One study found that an abuser's risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana, probably because it increases both blood pressure and heart rate and reduces oxygen-carrying capacity of blood.
Ooooh and also marijuana can lead to other drugs ... hope this help !

All of this applies if you misuse / abuse the drug over a very long period of time. When consumed in a responsible manner (i.e. not every waking moment of your life as I know some people to do) via the oral route / vaporisation, none of the above apply. Cannabis can be consumed 'safely' and will do next to nothing in someone who consumes it once / twice a week over a long period of time on a recreational / medical basis.
The link shown between cannabis consumption and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideas and schizophrenia is merely a situational / environmental link. No studies have ever shown that cannabis on its own (less the effects of other drugs / people / environments) actually increases the occurrence of these traits. I would have thought that all of the studies performed would have been looking at the person' health in general, encapsulating all aspects of their life and any other drug use, not just cannabis on its own. Despite all of this, I do kind of err on the side of caution of what I say as I have met / talked to people who are long term / heavy users of cannabis who do display traits of being constantly paranoid and are generally a bit weird.
I don't quite see how the risk of an MI (myocardial infarction - heart attack) would be increased so much over merely a period of an hour. The initial hypertension would be caused by the high pulse rate but I really don't see how this initial increase would be enough to create a haematoma / cause enough starvation of O2 to the cardiac muscle. You will also only get a very small decrease in your SPO2 (O2 saturation) levels for a pretty short time when you first inhale the smoke. Nothing which could plausibly cause damage to the heart. It would be no worse than accidentally breathing in a lungful of exhaust smoke / someone else's tobacco smoke. Yes, I could see it causing other arrhythmias but not specifically an MI. Finally on this point, you say that this increase occurs with 'abusers' of the drug in question - what if people don't abuse it and use it sensibly (as most of us will do at some point in our life with prescription drugs)?.
The main way in which cannabis leads to other drugs is due to prohibition. Prohibition = having to buy from unregulated dealers = having instant access to other, harder drugs and possibly being put under pressure to buy them. Remove prohibition and you would remove the need for dealers. I use Holland as a prominent example.
Also, all of the above negatives quite easily apply to many many prescription drugs (this is something I've witnessed once more).
I feel that a happy medium can easily be met with cannabis. I've been using it for a few years now (as of late, maybe three or four times a month on average) and have never become ill from it / had any bad experiences / incurred any damage to my health. I've noticed that since I've started using the other products from the cannabis plant (hemp oil e.t.c.), I've improved my health in general and have also improved my asthma.
If you abuse any drug (be it legal or not), bad things will most likely happen to your health / well being. If you actually educate yourself about a drug (as we do with prescription drugs) and consume a safe amount, I believe that most things are safe for you (be they legal or not).
I would go on about why cannabis is illegal / the troubles caused by its criminalisation / its medical uses but that would belong in another thread.
Ultimately, I strongly believe that humanity doesn't need people (I use this word carefully) to assert themselves in some form of false power and tell us what we can and can't do with our own bodies. It should be about education and choice, not blanket prohibition and scaremongering.

lol Alcohol is a hard drug
Marijuana is a fucking plant
Marijuana > Alcohol
Alcohol kills more people than all illegal drugs combined every year. Through alcohol poisoning, drunk drivers, fights, etc...
Tobacco is much worse for you then Marijuana as well
at that
Its been shown that THC actually helps slow down the growth or completly halts the growth of certin types of cancer, ironically, i belive they were certin types of lung cancer. MARIJUANA DOES NOT CAUSE CANCER, TOBACCO CAUSES CANCER.
it hasnt been proven that marijuana alone can cause cancer, namely because THC is also a neruoprotectant. Marijuana smokers also usually smoke much much less than tobacco smokers. they say 1 joint = llike 4 ciggs
but when you think about it, chronic smokers can go through multiple packs of ciggs a day, while the stoner smokes much much much less than that, especially if used in pipes or bongs which are better for you then joints and blunts, they also take more THC
Joints and Blunts are at the lowest, they release like 28% THC plus you also smoking paper or blunt wraps
Pipes release i think something like 40-50% of the THC so you use less, but u do inhale more smoke a once
Water Pipes like Bongs and Bubblers release something like 78% of the THC plus the smoke is filtered so it removes many toxins in the smoke, plus the smoke is cooler reducing the chance of burning your mouth, throat, or lungs
Vaporizers are one of the best and most effective ways of consuming cannabis, they release upwards of like 90% of the THC plus they do not combust plant material, they heat it up making the THC release itself, so you take in virtually no smoke
Eating it in edibles is the healthiest because it completly elimanates any smoke at all from entering your lungs

There is nothing radioactive about marijuana, so you probably can't get cancer from it. I've smoked every day for about 4-5 months now, and I can tell you that I can feel a difference in my lungs. I won't lie. BUT, it's over a long time and the difference is only a slight nuance.
The only way I can think of that marijuana can be is that you can waste all of your spending money on it (and food of course :P), you can get a bad reputation from other people because of it, and you can get in trouble with the law.
There are safe alternatives, like Danielf said. Vaporizers are good investments because you aren't taking in burning plant matter, and you get the most THC out of it. The downsides of Vapes though is that they are expensive, and it's not really a "social" way of doing it.
You could also orally consume the marijuana, although I will warn you, the high is NOTHING like if you smoke it. It's called 11 hydroxy metabolites, and they make you crazy high. There's something about edibles that makes you go DEEP into your mind and think about things that aren't meant to be thought about. Edibles can be fun, but really it's for more of wanting to see things from a different perspective than partying. So even though it is the safest way, be warned of how much different the high is. It doesn't even FEEL like weed. Sorry about rambling, it's just that edibles are my favorite :P. Also, don't eat too many because you don't feel anything happening. It takes around 1-2 hours for it to kick in and once it does, it hits you like a brick wall HARD

just be responsible with it and youll be fine, I know people who have nothing better to do and it pretty much screwed their lives up, likewise, I know people who smoke every day and theyre still doing things with their lives, it just all depends on how you go into it

Of course smoking is bad for you. But weed and cancer have no direct link. Weed numbs pain, it helps people eat, it relieves stress, and it is a plant...
Pot is also NOT let me repeat NOT addicting. It has nothing that would make you physically dependent. It makes you appear addicted but by no means are you addicted to it.
The only problem is that its very hard to flush out of your system.
I smoke alot, like 2-4 bowls 3 times a week and you know what. I have had no health issues that would have anything to do with Pot. So go figure.

Right. And I don't know if it's true, but ever since I started smoking at least once a week (which has been like 7-8 months) I haven't gotten sick. So it might help strengthen the immune system? Or it might just be a coincidence that I haven't gotten sick since I started smoking regularly.
Also, I like your new avatar, Winterfell

It might be coincidence, or it might be that smoking pot has lowered your stress levels, which improves your immune system. I don't think pot itself raised your immune system directly though.

A low possibility does not make a sound arguement.

"Massachusetts marijuana laws reflect this type of legislation, as possession of less than one ounce was lessened to a civil offence, with a penalty of a $100 fine. "
So has the law changed, or was this source wrong? I believe the source was created in 2009

If your thinking about smoking weed, read below:
Smoking weed makes your penis stop growing.
It's true, a close friend of mine smoked weed with his dad sense he was 12. He is now 16 and his penis is hardly, and i mean HARDLY, 4 inches. I'm 15, never, smoked, and mine is at 5.5.
also, he has a beard, and tons of other body hair. I have never shaved.

So there's ONE example of something that I've never heard of. For me to believe it, I would like to see 500 or more cases where this is true. Do you have any sources? Proof that this is 100% true?

There is no study that proves Marijuana consumption affects the size of the penis.

Oh dear.
Some people have small penises, some people's penises stop growing at an earlier age than others. You're merely presenting a situational link. It's much more likely the genetics which are dictating his growth patterns.

take it from someone who uses it quite often.
the only thing you gotta worry about is being lazy (WHILST HIGH NOT AFTER WHEN YOU SOBER UP)
getting hungry and perhaps gaining weight? :P
and probably the worst sometimes you get a bit phlegmy but that can be expected from any smoke.
so in the end its not a big deal. fairly harmless plant that makes you act goofy.
