Here in Australia we're having a federal election on Saturday, 21 August 2010 with the full chamber of the House of Representatives and Half of the Senate up for election.
What I find interesting is that a 19 year old guy named Wyatt Roy is a candidate for the Division of Longman in the State of Queensland. If the opinion polls are correct he will win in that seat.
Here is a picture of him:

And no he is not the police officer.
Does anyone think 19 is too young to be elected as a member of the House of Representatives?
Here is his campaign website: http://www.wyattroy.com.au/
I think he is too young to be honest.

No, I don't see how age should play a part in politics. If he's just as passionate and can get the job done just as good or bad as the other politicians I don't see a problem.

How he get any respect from older citizens?
I don't think he would have any authority at all.

as long as you're not like eleven, and you know what you're doing, or I mean as long as HE knows what he's doing and all that, it's okay...

I kind of like the age restrictions in place in the United States.
I don't think age 19 is good to be in that position of power and earning all that money and having a million dollar pension when voted out next time!

I do think that older people have more life experience and can probably serve the people better. Personally. But, if someone can be elected, hopefully, they should be able to serve those it represents. If they're elected, go for it.

Hope he gets respect from his fellow congressmen and women. If he's elected then I bet he'll serve the people well.

I couldn't care less about age. It's all about your views and qualifications. Some of us here on ROTW speak eloquently enough to be politicians, haha.

He won... and during the last week his main opponent insulted a father with a disabled child so that got him across the line.

Plus he's a liberal... eh.
Good for him, I guess.

I think ability should be more important than age, but at 19 he has no life experience and no idea how his decisions will affect people

If he's proven himself, I say why not.
It could be refreshing.

He's from a new generation. Could work better then an older politician.

The Liberal Party in Australia is the conservative party.

I know, that's why I'm not fond of him. I'm Australian myself, you know
I don't like labor either, the greens are where it's at.
