The Humane Slaughter Act (HSA) requires that livestock be stunned and thus insufferable to pain before slaughter.
Currently the law only protects livestock and excludes poultry, rabbits and fish.
Personally, I feel the law should be modified to cover the aforementioned animals. The effort beforehand is vital to ensure the animal doesn't suffer unbearable amounts of pain during the slaughtering process. It takes minor labor to ensure as well.
