More COD premium multiplayer claims
Quote:
Mark this one down strictly as unsubstantiated rumour, but games site MaxConsole claims to have word from a “source” regarding the paid-for multiplayer components that Activision is expected to announce shortly for Call of Duty: Black Ops.
It claims that alongside the traditional multiplayer options – which will remain free – Activision will also offer an optional monthly subscription that will be priced £10 or less.
For the money players will get free access to DLC map packs, and that access will be granted before non-subscribers get the chance to play. Exclusive maps and equipment will also be offered, as well as early beta access to the next Call of Duty title. Apparently there’s also the chance of dedicated servers offering more players than normal.
Though all of this could well have been plucked from the air by MaxConsole, it does look to be roughly in line with what many believe Activision will offer.
Expect official details in a few weeks.

But not only is this greedy, it could potentially unbalance and break the entire game. Not buying, I'l be playing reach this winter instead.

ha, no one 13 year old will play for online. and around 50% of all players are 12-15. This will FAIL

Bet activision will still do it though. Considering the maps packs for MW2 cost more on the PSN than the game does.

That's not really true. Some jackass predicted that. People would be pissed off if there were a a subscription for Starcraft II. Would not float well. Barely anybody would do it.

Sony would strangle Activision for that. A major selling point for the ps3 is free and unlimited online play. If Activision started an "exclusive" online play, they would most likely let the free one take the backseat and sony would lose console sales.

But they'd just be following the model from battlefield 2 and madden set up. Like in madden if you buy the game pre-owned, you have to buy a ticket to get to the online, and with battlefield, if you buy it preowned you have to buy the DLC.

But you don't pay monthly for those things. EA is just doing that so they can combat used games, which is stupid on the consumer stance.

If this is true then it's just another nail in the coffin of Call of Duty as a series.
I mean it's already failing by making MW2 so shit, the new one coming out at the end of the year looks about as exciting as a dead kitten and I don't think that the predecessor to any game should be better quality... but that's the case with WaW. This is yet another reason for people not to buy Black Ops and just go for Reach instead.

This is stupid. Especially for Xbox Live. (I will nto spend my money on the game anyway, but my brother will rush out to buy just the same)
If we're already paying a yearly subscription to Xbox Live, then why pay more just to get a map pack before everyone else? Can't you jsut wait to get them when they are supposed to be released. And special gear? isn't this what special edition games are for? you pay extra for the limited edition, or pre-order, and the you get say, exclusive perks or guns, or maybe a new callsign. you dont pay for that after you spend $60 on a [crappy] game
