i dont understand why ciggertes are legal but weed is illegal

There's been countless threads about this topic, and if you think about it, it kind of makes sense that cigarettes are legal. When tobacco was first discovered, no one knew about it's dangers but some how, it weaved it's way into our history.

Also, tobacco doesn't have any brain altering effects like marijuana does such as uncontrollable laughter, out of body feelings, and sudden distractions or "Zoning out", which could be bad in some situations. That being said, I still believe that marijuana should be legal and by far it is more healthy than tobacco, and more fun imo :P

But, I don't think that tobacco should be illegal, since even though it's bad for you, you don't see the government outlaw donuts, yet they are still bad for you. It's a decision some people choose to make, and I think tobacco isn't a worry to the government. They tell us the warnings of tobacco, and it's up to you if you want to take up smoking.

But what do I know, I can't even see straight right now :D :P

Please see the other threads, as there has been WAY too many as of late. I'm exhausted from typing up my reasons. Sordid Saint summed it up nicely in that tobacco is not nearly as mind altering (although more physically harmful) and it's tightly wound up in the history of our country.

the short version is that people didnt realize tobacco was bad until relatively recently, and by that time, the tobacco industry held too much power to allow politicians to illegalize it.
