What is your logic behind it being a sin? I'm roman catholic and masturbate almost every day...

August 10th, 2010, 12:11 PM
A sin is an act against God; it separates us from God.
God created us with a sex drive.
Masturbating - as well as marriage - helps provide an outlet for our sexual expression.
You are not sinning, kid.
VTry007

God created us with a sex drive.
But the closer you are to God, the less you are interested in sex.
I think your body has a sex drive. Certainly God understands that we have this sex drive.
But the Spirit of Jesus in us does not have a sex drive, and we will not have sex in heaven.
So... does that mean we should not have sex? No, when you're married, you should have sex.
Should you masturbate given that you have a desire too? Gee... your desire for that diminishes a lot when you're living a life close with God.

But the closer you are to God, the less you are interested in sex.
I am extremely close to God, moreso now than I ever was. He has provided to me in the past few weeks, comfort and love that I have never before experienced. However, I, nor anyone else I know, has become "less interested in sex." Even of the most devout Christians. Even Paul, who was a celibate, recognized the fact that people are still human, and our physical needs must be met: "it is better to marry than to burn." God doesn't expect us to stop having sex; he expects us to be responsible about it.
I think your body has a sex drive Certainly God understands that we have this sex drive.
Of course our bodies have this sex drive, it is literally a God-given gift! Unless you're blessed with the gift of celibacy, denying it can be unhealthy. That doesn't mean we need to have sex with everything that moves. God gave Adam Eve so that they could "cleave," fulfilling each others emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. That's what sex, if not abused, is inherently about: forming a bond so strongly with another person that you can only describe it as two separate people becoming one.
But the Spirit of Jesus in us does not have a sex drive, and we will not have sex in heaven.
That makes absolutely no sense. First of all, a "spirit" is not made of flesh, and can't have sex as it is, so of course there are no physical needs to be met. And of course there won't be sex in heaven, nor will there be marriage. Heaven is a place for spiritual beings, not fleshly ones. Spiritual beings are unable to "become one."
And even with the "spirit of Jesus" being inside of us, we are still human! If you say the "spirit of Jesus" in us does not have a sex drive, then obviously sex isn't the focus, but spiritual growth and love is. I do not see, in what way whatsoever, how spiritual fulfillment cancels out sexual fulfillment.
So... does that mean we should not have sex? No, when you're married, you should have sex.
Where did you get that from? Did you not see my former post where I said marriage is an outlet for sexual expression? Masturbation is also a safe outlet for sexual expression. The only time sex becomes a problem is when we become completely and utterly controlled by our desires to get our fix that we put sex before God. But unless your day is completely driven to have sex, sex, and more sex, what is the problem?
Should you masturbate given that you have a desire too? Gee... your desire for that diminishes a lot when you're living a life close with God.
Of course, you should masturbate if you have the desire to, if it is done in the privacy of your own home! Who or what is it harming? No one. In fact, it can more harmful if you DON'T masturbate than if you do. I see no logical reason why God would be against masturbation, particularly if we still put Him first. Those desires might, as you say, "diminish" but they sure as heck don't go away.

I'm a devote Christian and I masturbate regularly.
I think of it like this:
When you get married, it binds the man and woman together as one body. Is that not correct? Well if you have sex with your wife once you are married, then that means you're sexually pleasing yourself.
Masturbation is a sexual pleasure but it is with yourself. So it's no different.
I've thought and prayed a lot about this subject. I've come to the conclusion that it isn't a sin and that it's fine. As long as you don't put masturbation before God and/or have lustful thoughts with it.

I am extremely close to God, moreso now than I ever was. He has provided to me in the past few weeks, comfort and love that I have never before experienced.
That's great. Ps 1:2 talks about meditating on the Word of God. That's when you get into the presence of the Holy Spirit, take a verse in the Bible, and just go over that verse in your mind. In that way the Holy Spirit can impart into your spirit a revelation of the truth of that Word.
I did that with verses about God's love. That is an awesome way to get closer to God.
Plus, you can also seek for more of God's anointing.
God gave Adam Eve so that they could "cleave," fulfilling each others emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. That's what sex, if not abused, is inherently about: forming a bond so strongly with another person that you can only describe it as two separate people becoming one.
I agree. It's an expression of love.

Also, I pretty much agree with everything Captor K said XD
And I have something of my own to contribute.
This may not apply to everyone, but for me at least, if I'm really really horny, I tend to act extremely perverted. Frankly, I embarrass myself, I have ruined one friendship from acting this way. Masturbating gives me a sexual outlet and helps me control these feelings. So even if it is a sin, as far as I'm concerned, It's the lesser of two evils d:

Yes, but it doesn't relate to masturbation. It talks about Onan, whose brother is dead, that should have sex with his brother's widow, and give her children that would transmit and keep alive his brother's lineage. Onan refused, "spilling his seed on the ground" instead. That's refusing to give his brother a "post-mortem child" that was a sin. (See Gen. 38, 9-10).

Right. I don't think there is any verse in the Bible that explicitly says don't masturbate. The closest one may be about sexual immorality, and it's debatable how that applies to jerking off.

I believe that masturbation is a harmless activity enjoyed by both sexes, and that your religious faith should have nothing to do with it. I understand that some religions view masturbation as a sin, but my opinion on that is bogus. It's a healthy activity done on an intimate level with yourself, and as long as you're not parading yourself around while doing it, it's perfectly fine.

This topic is one I struggled with myself because masturbation is never mentioned in the Bible. However the Lord doesn't want anyone to lust after another huuman being, so using pornography would be considered a sin. So if you are just masturbating to relieve the natural sex drive we all have, then it is fine, but if you are using pornography then you are sinning. Ultimately you just have to decide whether or not it is getting in between you and your relationship with God. If it does, then pray about it, and figure out what's going on, if not, then you are fine.

The only way it's sinful is if you lust. And no, no one would go to hell because everyone has sinned whether it's lying, stealing, or whatever. You wouldn't go to hell for it because there is such a thing as forgiveness.

I don't think it is a sin.
If you think about it, if you don't masturbate for a long time, you get wet dreams and wake up with it all over your sheets. So masturbation is basically a way to relieve sexual tension before marriage.
It's sort of like God gave us masturbation to do just that, regulate our sex drive. :)

im a christian and im trying to figure out if its a sin to masturbate. if ur not christian please do NOT post. ur effort is greatly apreaciated
It really depends on what you do it to... If your doing it to girls you are committing adultury according to the bible. And if you are doing it to guys, it is frowned upon in the bible i believe.
