i would pick the 3gs out of apple's pocket, as it's probs the best, the only thing i don't like about them are the way the thing really does heat up when your using it and you cant change the battery when it gets old a weak.
i've heard the HTC desire is quite good although i've never used it.
Sony also entered the market with the most powerful Android phone so far, the X10 i think it's called, there's also a mini version of it costing half the price.

Browse it online if your interested, check out carphone warehouse or phones4u that'l give you a wide variety of networks and plans. I think i seen some decent plans for £15 pm giving you decent call time and internet.

I would try something different. Instead of being "just another Apple slave", I would try the Android. I wish I could get a smartphone. I have an LG Rumor 2, and it is a "dumbphone".

I have the x10 mini, contacts £15 a month and I'm getting unlimited texts, unlimited web and 300 minutes. Though I'm on three, the phone was free too, but that's only cause the contract is two years long. On a more technical side, it's easy to use an the android system is fast, and I've experienced no problems with it :)

That's the price for the handset though, if your wanting a smart phone you will more than likely need a contract for it to be moderatly inexpensive at least. The offer Siobhan (possible spelling error >_<) mentioned the £15 per month was the one i seen online and to me seems like the best deal out for a more than decent smartphone.

Well i dont have an iPhone unfortunaly :( but I would go with the iPhone 4 because it is AMAZING and they are working out the bugs.... i mean at one time the orignal iPhone had problems with it too.

Yes, it did have bugs but you'd think that four generations of products down the line they would have everything about the gadget in tip top working condition, but no it doesn't. Why waste your money on Apple with a product that barely works to the safety and maintenance standards of certain countries?

I personally love the Droid. It has a slide out actual keyboard in addition to an on-screen one, it's highly responsive, few glitches, great service, and great speed.

At the minute i would say that the 3gs deffinatly looks more solid and much less of a risk compared to the 4.

What if you got a 3gs for now and in a few months see if you can trade it in with s small amount of cash for the 4 that way most of the kinks will be worked out. BTW another one to check out is the Google Nexus and the HTC Evo 4g

fyi only a small percentage of them are having antennae issues. Just the people that are are making a big deal about it. My dads works fina, and when mine gets here, it will hopefully be fine. iPhone 4 has is sssooo much better imho.

i just chucked a blackberry for an iphone4..... Unless you get the new bb torch, blackberry is a bad path to travel, unless you like phones that constantly freeze.

My iPhone would freeze all the time until I had to restore it. Even now it still freezes every now and then.

3G, 3GS, or 4G? My dads old 3G never froze, and neither of our new ones have yet.

I am a mobile device programmer and from my inside experience, I would suggest Android. I've seen the insides of iPhone, and it's not the quality that Apple marketing makes it out to be. From the hardware side, they honestly aren't as good as even entry Android phones.
Also, the Android OS is customizable and open source, meaning that you (and other third-party developers like me) can tailor your experience just for you.
Did I mention, it supports Adobe Flash?
