I found that if you shave downwards, you won't get razor burn.
You will not get as close of a shave, but there won't be any itchyness.

I find that the new Gillette Fusion ProGlide razors are perfect for shaving pubes (Or any hair for that matter). The blades are thinner so they more easily slice through the hair without irritating the area as much.
While technique plays a role in if it itches or not, the razor you use plays a HUGE role. If you're using cheap disposable razors, then of course it's not going to be the most pleasant experience.

I dont have a problem with the shaving it self. The problem that I have is when it starts to grow back, it get very prickley and feels unpleasant in my pants.

You have to use lots of soap or shaving cream and go with the grain so that you don't get ingrown hairs and then yo can put some shaving oil to reduce the itching and razorburn also use a good razor

The best way to shave any hair on your body is with the grain, the same way the hair grows. That way it actually cuts the hair. If you shave against the grain the razor basically rips the hairs out which is what causes razor burn (if it is what I think it is) but it gets a closer shave because it can get at the base of the hairs.
Personally I shave with the grain then against afterwards, that way it doesn't hurt as much and you're much less likely to destroy your skin.

I just trim. Trimming is already risky enough being that a sharp object is down there. But I'd rather have it trimmed then shaved clean anyways.

I prefer an electric razor because it makes it a lot easier and the itch normally isnt as bad
