why is it that so many guys always stress the fact that they're straight. its kinda weird and an unecessary thing to say. is it because they fear criticism or dont want a gay guy coming on to them. its just strange...so if u could help me 2 understand this better then
Thank :)

Probably just a fear of being called gay.
I've noticed it as well, but never really wondered /why/ they stress it so much.

Fear does amazing things. I've noticed that a lot of straight guys are highly insecure about their sexuality, which makes me doubt if they even know if they're straight. Straight guys who are secure about who they are, on the other hand, don't stress the fact that they are straight. Some are even flattered if a gay man finds them attractive.
Yes, it could be that the insecure guys fear criticism. Sometimes that fear becomes internalized and they lash out at anyone who may make any sort of reference to them being gay. For whatever reason — probably ignorance, misinformation, misconceptions — they feel the need to protect themselves from "teh gay." These are the sorts of guys who can become downright vicious to gays. But, in a society that spent decades hating gays, calling them demeaning and dehumanizing names, demonizing them, persecuting them (and still do), driving them from their homes, friends, and churches, casting them out to despair, violence and death, you can't really blame these guys for their fear. Nobody wants to be in a minority, especially if the majority tends to treat you like trash in a ditch.
Fortunately, people are becoming informed and starting to see the error in their ways. Love, knowledge, and compassion always conquers fear, ignorance, and hatred. If a guy has to stress the fact that he is straight, he's likely to be insecure about himself. The only security is to teach him by show-and-tell. "Gay is okay."

However I say this is gonna offend or alarm readers, and I don't mean to, but I think the FACTS - are what they are, and people just choose to either be ignorant (not an "attitude" or a "slur" - just meaning: to ignore)or look the other way about sexual preferances.
The old saying that 10% of ALL MEN are Gay - is HOGWASH!! Try 40-50%
And it's this "ever-rising" percentage, that straight guys are aware of, that causes them to separate and/or distinguish themselves - AS STRAIGHT, so there's no doubt of their preferance.
I am a young Gay male, and I see more guys that are gay than I ever imagined. When I came out to my Parents, they just told me to be happy and passionate about everything I do, and I don't feel ashamed anymore.

That's probably the reason right there, you hit it right on.
