I dont watch the news at all, but my brother was telling me about i guess they are sending or have sent army national guard to the borders? Like, what is the point of that? Thats pretty stupid! I mean, they have a steady job now and they dont need to do something like that! Why not use people that have been laid off or do not have jobs at all anymore, and let them take the place of the army? It just doesnt make sense.

Are you suggesting drafting people who are temporally out of work?
Are you talking about the mexican border?

Well im talking about the border between mexico and the us yes. And yea. The people that lost their jobs because of the economy, and losing housing. Just to give them some income at least

Yea i was talking about just letting people work temporarily as like the border patrol, or just in fact do whatever the army was over there doing, so you can give some people income for their family. and yes, the border that seperates the U.S. And mexico

It is the simple fact that they have not been trained and the government has no money for this sort of thing. We have better uses for those men and women but right now we need to get this border together the reason we are losing jobs is because of this border.

Well, people have the opportunity to join the military anytime they want. They shouldn't be forced. In fact, I'd rather encourage them to find a job. You can't just make someone border patrol. You have to have certain training.
And the National Gaurd is called the National Gaurd for a reason. They are usually sent to natural disaster sites to aid citizens and reconstruction efforts.
You should watch the news.

Its a tragedy that the national guard is being sent to guard the boarder??

Lol well i guess im a little immature and just cant stand watching the news.....yet. But i mean, yea, you have that opportunity, my brother i live with was in the USAF and there is an age limit to start. And most people losing jobs werent ready for it and at their age they cant. And i really didnt mean they should be BP, just help out. You know, do whatever security job the NG was doing.

Maverick, is that a question?

You're suggesting we send citizens to do jobs that trained military personnel do. That's a great way to get people killed.

Won't all those jobless people be more useful at something else than guarding a border they can't efficiently guard anyway?
Are they trying to build a modern-day Iron Curtain? They know it is money spent in vain, right?

Maybe they put those guards because they WANT to guard in efficiently ?

Well i was just giving a suggestion to cut down on unneccessary protection and help cut down on unemployment. If it is some really highly expensive equiptment, then yes maybe you need them

That is the National Gaurd's JOB. It's why they get paid. If people want to get paid to do the National Gaurd's job, they can join the...wait for it... National Gaurd. The protection is necessary. The border is chaotic right now.
If people are unemployed, it's their problem to deal with.

It is the national guard's job to go around doing miscellaneous non-military jobs like this. The war on drugs has caused the border to collapse into a hellhole of massacres and uninterrupted violence. Re-instituting the draft would be a massively unpopular decision and isn't really necessary. The amount of money and time it would take to train the unemployed — not all of whom are in shape to join the national guard — would be ridiculous. It's best to just use what we have.

Idk if you've read of takeourjobs.org. It's a program that started to get U.S citizens and legal residents to go and work in the fields. Not a lot of people have taken up on the offer.

We don't even have the money to build a simple wall. There'll never be enough money to do all that.

I doubt that, considering the over 9000 problems that this country is in every minute.

The National Guard, going to borders?! What has this country come to? Oh wait, they're doing their job. =]
Also, Alyssa, please stop double posting.
Though this was a good topic to discuss, I don't see a major problem with them doing their job..

Well. My brother who was in the military for military police, say they spend rediculous amount of money on bs stuff and not enough for security around bases. He always complained about it.

"BS stuff" such as what? I'm not saying the military doesn't waste money, I'd just like to know what they waste it on.

I thought it's independent private companies that pay for security like that?

Lol well a couple thousand dollars on shipping snow to his base to have a snow day in the middle of the summer, only to have it appearently melt in 20 min. Or to spent what he called dbids, which is a security scanner for the gates, which costs even more which has been in service for a couple months, yet it isnt even fully functional and makes his job a lot harder.

Wow, that is wasteful spending. However, I don't think a couple thousand dollars is going to do anything about the border situation, nor do I think the government will pick up on this wasteful spending.
